He might not play the passing lanes better but you know theres more to judging D than that (like keeping slashers from being able to slash or not letting shooters get too comfortable at their spots)

That's only if you believe that Lebron's "choking" had nothing to do with Marion's stellar defense. Kidd was on Lebron at times but it was mostly Marion with that assignment and he did a better job against James than just about anyone i can recall

He played some good defense on Durant as well at key times in the WCF

A majority of Marion's defensive role every game all season long was checking the opponent's most dangerous scorer and the Mavs would not have won the championship without him

Re: Best perimeter defender in the nba

Good defense means playing positional and in contain positions. Its harder now with the outlawing of hand-checking. But great perimeter defenders need to be in your chest, tailgate or beat guys to screens, not fall for fakes, and threaten the scorers shot releases.

In today's game the best are: Tony Allen, Shane Battier, Andre Iguodala, Arron Afflalo, Thabo Sefolosha and Dwyane Wade.

Shawn Marion has lost at least two steps but is still adequate. He was at his peak in the 05 playoffs when he baffled Nowitzki. Same goes for Ron Artest, he can still guard strong, slow players (Paul Pierce) but speed guys leave him in the dust.

Not sure Shawn Marion is better than Tony Allen anymore.

At his best, Shawn Marion could guard Parker on one play then guard Duncan on another. Barely saw anything else like it.

Please, he would regularly get toasted by any of Duncan, Parker or Ginobili. His defensive skills always been overrated, especially during his time in Phoenix. D'Antoni playing on either Duncan or Parker was usually why Phoenix would lose. No suprise they finally beat S.A. when Marion was gone.

He was nothing more than a defensive stat-padder at his peak. Could defend certain players well (Dirk, LeBron or Anthony), but had no chance against bigger or faster/quicker players.

Best Perimeter Defender:
1. Tony Allen
2. LeBron James
3. Thabo Sefolosha
4. Aaron Afflalo
5. Ronnie Brewer
