Well, if the Hornets are going back to Charlotte, we might as well go full 90's up in here.

The biggest thing Hornets had going for them in the 90's had to be this:

Everyone had this coat. Some didn't even know what they were wearing...

Those concepts do look really cool, but given the fact that the proposed color scheme is navy and red, I doubt those will come to fruition, but I have seen pretty much the same proposed logo in that color scheme and it looks pretty sick:

That was actually a point Deadspin made in their article about this. Names like Browns, Packers, Lakers, Yankees, Maple Leafs etc. wouldn't fly today because people would think they were too soft or dumb sounding. Pelicans makes me think of baseball more than basketball (for whatever reason), that's the biggest problem I have with it.

That logo is nice though if they went with that.

Oh and here's Deadspin's defense of the name. NSFW

Yeah, again, gotta give props on that logo. The artist did an awesome job.

I like the other color scheme better though I think. Although that red and gold is nice.

Has there been any word if this was a no doubt final decision, or is this another one of those ploys where they throw it out there to get a public reaction, and if it flops they decide against it last minute?

That's a really good point. I never thought of it like that but even back then calling a team the "pelicans" would get a chuckle out of people. The thing with Louisiana is that the things the state is known for don't translate too well to professional sports team or if it does it's already in use. Alligators, jazz music, French influence, food, crustaceans, black bear, pelicans...that's all i got
