Vikings on the verge of being sold to Fowler

story:http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/column...len&id=1991023

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/3395278: posted two links just incase 1 doesn't work

Was about to crash for the night then i saw this. If the deal goes through Reggie Fowler would become the first black nfl owner.
Any deal including Moss would have to postponed till after the new ownership is all cleared up.

Thanks for the heads up 2007,(my graduating year )

While I hope the Vikings do get sold, I would rather it be to Taylor. However, about anyone is better than Red at this point. I will guess that McCombs will deny about the sale being imminant, I really dont like him, keeps denying any sale.

I have heard that Taylor has upped his offer considerably lately. Also if the Fowler and McCombs reach a deal the league will check on Fowler finances pretty thoroughly. But I agree Fowler is much better than McCombs.

Re: Vikings on the verge of being sold to Fowler

Fowler has to get the deal approved by at least 9 owners in the league and prove he has a the financing for at least 30% of the team. His investors are loaded but it's said that he only has a little under 500 Million. He will try to purchase the team for 625 Million and there will be a press conference tomorrow. Many feel that nowadays to buy a professional sports team you need to have 1 Billion in assets to make it work. Fowler falls well short.

Meanwhile Taylor is waiting in the wings, confident, ready to pounch. It's said that he wants to offer Red 400-425 Million up front with 225 Million more on the table when the team gets approved for a new stadium. (Smart Idea, but will Red go for it?) Taylor is worth around 1.6 Billion in assets so financing shouldn't be a big deal for him and his investors.

What Red will and is probably doing is knowingly letting Fowler offer him the 625 Million for the team so Taylor has to use that as a benchmark to work at. Taylor stated early in the week he'd pay 600 Million and this may be a way for Red to get a few more pennies from Taylor.

When Red bought the team back in 1998, for I think around 265 Million, writer Tom Clancy was in the same spot Fowler is right now. His finances fell through because of a divorce he was going through and Red wound up with the team. So Taylor is far from out of the picture and IMO will probably end up the new Vikings owner.

Hope this helps explaining what's goin on a little bit from what I've read.

Listened to the press conference. Red and Fowler seem extremely confident in this deal. They stopped being PC and were talking as if all was left to do was Red to hand over the keys to Fowler. Fowler is moving his family to Minnesota too. Red thinks it'll take 3-10 weeks to finalize the deal and he will run the team until that time. Which really really sucks.
