How's this: according to NFL.com, in 2008 Romo was tied for 5th amongst starting QB's in completions of 20+ yards (despite playing in only 13 games).

  1. Drew Brees 66
  2. Jay Cutler 55
  3. Donovan McNabb 52
  4. Kurt Warner 50
  5. Phillip Rivers, Aaron Rodgers, Tony Romo 48
In 2007, the only player to have more 20+ yard completions was Tom Brady (TB 56, TR 55).

In fact Romo has been criticized for not dumping it off enough. He tends to hold the ball looking to make a big play, which is a big part of why he has problems with fumbles and ints.

Re: Tony Freakin' Romo

To look back and determine dump offs, you'd have to look at the YAC of the Cowboys receiving core, and the number of receptions. So say Whitten had 100 receiving yards on 10 catches, but averaged 9 YAC per reception for 90 YAC. That would mean Romo was always dumping off, and Whitten was doing the work after the catch.

A quick glance at their stats shows that this isn't the case, but it's a moot point because Romo's biggest problem is his costly mistakes, not his inability to throw the ball. He can throw just fine.

Is this the proof you were looking for?

I doesn't seem to long ago that we were all saying that about Manning! Funny what winning a super bowl will do for you.

I don't really know if that proves a whole lot on its own, though. Drew Brees is atop that list and he dumps the ball off a ton.
