Monk had been waiting 8 years man. Now was as great a time as any. Oh yeah, Monk getting a 3 minute standing ovation.

WOW!

Great speeches by everyone. I liked Fred Dean's the best though because it had some funny moments and was improvised as he forgot his glasses LOL.

Monk has been due for a while though. His consistency and longevity make this induction long overdue imo.

up until recently, the HOF voters had problems voting in wide receivers for some reason. That is why Carter has to wait even though he should have been first ballot.

Well Art should have went before Irvin, but that's not the point of this thread. Chris Carter will make it eventually.

Re: Congrats Darrell Green and Art Monk

I do hope that Reed makes it in next year with Bruce Smith.

Anyways we should have proper perspective like Monk has. He said in his speech that while this is probably his greatest honor it's not something that defines him. He showed a lot of class saying that the controversy of waiting so long was something that he didn't have a problem with.

Re: Congrats Darrell Green and Art Monk

said it before and i'll say it again, if you retire as the leader in career receptions in the HISTORY of the league, should have gotten in on the first ballot. today was long overdue for art and darrell imo was a no brainer...

lol there you go with the comparisons

Irvin was the better player, but both were HOFers. Like i said earlier, Monk's longevity and consistency make him a no brainer for the HOF...but he was not the difference maker that Irvin was imo. Anyway, both of them deserve it regardless of any comparisons.
