heartbreaking story on Earl Campbell

Man this was tough to read especially since i've seen him play thanks to the magic of video tape. The man was an Adonis on the field and now he's reduced to this.

Earl Campbell story

Read the first 2 posts in that thread.

BTW, those people at UT are REAL classy, thinking that Campbell would go out there drunk.

Earl is always worried about people thinking that he is drunk. He says that in interviews and at appearances...but most people in Austin have obviously been well aware of Earl's health issues for a while.

and he is obviously VERY revered here (im sure he knows that well)

Ah, I didn't know it was a bit of paranoia on his part. I know he's an icon down there.

I read somewhere that he was getting surgery to alleviate his back pain so he can walk normally.

Seeing Earl & the Bus made me realize power running back was the most hazardous job in team sports.

Well before my time, but he's still an all time favorite. The day a back in the NFL can be safely compared to Earl will be a glorious day for the NFL.

That man was a BEAST! Loved watching him run. I still remember the guy grabbing and ripping his jersey trying to bring down. He kept on going. I also, remember the song they play during his years. It was call "The Houston The Houston The Houston #1.
