You mean they weren't mathematically eliminated. In that case, everybody but the Raiders & Lions have been fighting for the playoffs the last few seasons. But for those of us looking at it rationally realize the Bills & Dolphins haven't had playoff spots in the balance when they played.

Not true. Everyone likes to laugh at the Raiders. Hard to hate something so pitiful.

As for people clamoring for certain other rivalries, I think it should matter in terms of overall meaning. For example, Redskins-Cowboys is undeniably one of the biggest all-time rivalries in the game, but currently (with the team's taking turns under performing) nobody outside those teams fans really care.

Plenty of people will tune in to see Pats/Colts for the QBs, Ravens/Steelers for the hard play, etc. Heck, some might even tune into Chargers/Broncos since the whole "Ed" incident.

The point being that diehards always have strong feelings about their rivals. It's the number of outside fans (fans of other teams) watching that determine how relevant the rivalry is overall.

As a current rivalry the Skins vs The Cowboys should not be on the list at all. It's a historic rivalry but that one has been dominated by the Cowboys in the last 5-10yrs. Not to mention there haven't been too many times theyve matched up where both teams had playoff aspirations.

And it's more of a rivalry for Skins fans than it is for Dallas.
