So you seriously believe that if not for Hayes, nobody would have ever thought about sending a 6-4 athletic monster deep?

It's not like he discovered a new theory of quantum physics. I think that at some point, some offensive coach would have connected that a big, fast, athletic WR could probably do some damage running down the field.

Look how long it took Bob Hayes to get in? Yeah, looking at his number they're ok. BUT remember he played in an era where not a lot of teams were airing it out like football has been doing the past 15-20 years.

After some years people assumed that Hayes would never get in BUT I'm glad the voters came to their senses and discovered that he put up some big numbers in an era where passing wasn't the trend.
Carter and Hayes had drug issues, and Carter was highly disliked early in his career by the media. Hayes struggled because his numbers were from a different era that didn't translate well to today. It's stupid he had to wait so long though.

Monk never did anything "memorable". He was steady Freddy, but he doesn't have signature catches or games that make him stand out as a cut above.

Moss is one-of-a-kind, and he's made some incredible plays and had some signature games.

no we are not talking about QP, we are talking about deep threats in the NFL. Hayes was the first great one. He was a "pioneer" if you will when it comes to deep threat wide recievers. Hayes has evolved into players like Randy Moss

Hayes is to Randy Moss as Sammy Baugh is to Dan Marino

Anyway, im done trying to explain it to you. If you dont get it, then that is your problem. I dont care. Maybe if you are ever in Canton, you can read Hayes' bio and it will educate you on how he helped change the game.

I'm not saying Hayes wasn't a "pioneer" of running down the field.

My issue is with your nonsense that "there might not even be a Moss if not for Hayes and players of his ilk that came after him."

It's just a stupid statement and implies that football coaches are so stupid that they can't connect tall, fast, dominant WR with running down the field.

Much like Chris Ford's 3 pointer, it may have been the first but I don't think that would have restricted anyone else from doing it later had he not have "pioneered" running down the field.

Didn't he break Steve Largent's record for all-time leader in receptions in 1992 against the Jets? My thinking is breaking an all-time career record to me is very memorable.
