Jones needs to stop handing out absurd contracts to WR's already. You already wasted a first rounder and a ton of money on the joke that is Roy Williams, then released your most productive WR in TO. Now you're shelling out big money for one good season by a guy who is essentially just a glorified burner. Pretty nuts.

Whats your definition of "done well"? Apparently he was paying attention to T.O., Michael Irvin and a host of other ex-cowboy greats and it has lead to his superior gameplay. It would have been tough to jump ahead in the depth chart considering he was a rookie and the Cowboys had just signed to T.O. and Roy(later on) to rather large contracts. So yeah of course he has only posted 1 1,000 yard season thus far. Makes since to me.

T.O. is a great player. However he was causing too much drama off the field. He is also a bit older and declining in skill. Austin filled in nicely where T.O. left off and the Cowboys passing game has not missed a beat.

Austin has helped contribute to the Cowboys having the #2 yardage wise and 14th in points offense in the NFL. While those numbers are not as prolific when T.O. was in town they are still very good numbers. The Cowboys had many offensive line issues and Marion Barber played hurt most of the season. That also contributed to less production on offense.

This contract will look like a bargain in five years.

I don't see why Miles Austin wouldn't continue playing at the level he is, but then again, this was his first full year starting so he doesn't have all the ample playing time.

Could be a risky move, especially with that price, but if he becomes an elite receiver it looks like a good move. We'll have to see how it turns out.

The reason why Jerry released TO because he felt that Miles was going to have a break out year. The Cowboys know what they are getting and they are willing to pay the price.

Re: Cowboys extend WR Miles Austin to six year 57 million extension

Well this is not like Jerry hasn't done this before.

Jerry has made a track record of if you earn your money you're going to get paid. That's how the Cowboys have operated, that's how they always will operate.

No Cowboy fan will argue that the Roy trade was over zealous, but at the same time, no Cowboy fan will ever say that a guy didn't get paid when he put the numbers up. That is why we hate Jerry... and that's why we love him.

Miles put up his numbers, why not pay the guy what he's owed? Remember this guy was an undrafted free agent, now he's a pro bowler, so regardless he is not being fairly compensated. Why not pay the guy now with todays market before all of this CBA nonesense goes down?

I respect and understand the reasoning, a contract like this is a statement. Miles Austin is the Cowboys guy, and they are not predicting him to be a one hit wonder. He has been paid fairly (maybe even a little more than fair) and now if/when he produces even similar numbers, the cowboys have him locked in and don't have to get taken to the cleaners in negotiations.

If Dez Bryant pans out as he is scouted to do, Miles Austin will flourish because teams can't key in on him. If Miles Austin pans out as he is scouted to do... Dez Bryant will flourish.

The Cowboys know what they are doing...
