Warren Moon was pretty good as were Rod Woodson and Deion Sanders.

Hard to argue against Reggie White but since Brees plays QB, a lot of people will say that he is.

Reggie White was a pretty good pick up. Maybe not as good as Brees but, I can't think of a better FA on the defensive side of the ball.

Oh yeah and wasn't Steve Young a FA pick up for the Niner's or was a traded from TB? I can't remember.

Reggie white did help lead the pack to 2 super bowls but he made a good team better. Brees however came to a team in transition and had immediate success. Also he was passed up for Daunte Culpepper in Miami.

Depends what you mean by "best free agent pick up of all time"? If you mean "best player acquired via free agency," then it's hands down Reggie White. He's probably the best football player of the modern era. If you mean "free agent who helped most to change his team's fortunes," it's Brees.
