Re: Week 1 QB Performances

The 5 Yard Bump Rule needs to be abolished NOW but as long as Doofus Goodell is in charge, we know that ain't happening no time soon.

I'll be damned if I'm going to see average-awful QBs get 300-400 Yds easy like it's no problem out here every single week.

Yeah, lol, one game scores are generally much more sporadic than full season scores.

Re: Week 1 QB Performances

Defenses around the league are clearly playing catch-up because of the lockout; that may be the lockout's ultimate consequence on the game this year.

The Dolphins have a Top 5 defense. You're nuts.

I don't think it's trying to be all encompassing. It's just trying to give you a better idea of how a QB played compared to the other NFL QB rating, by taking more factors into consideration.

I think stats are best used with eyes on, hands on experience.

I couldn't find the chart, but I found this article that mentions what the numbers equate to:

"...QBR is scaled from 0 to 100, with 50 representing league-average performance. For a single game, a rating in the 90s is terrific; last year, Vick's six-TD Monday night symphony against the Redskins topped the charts at 99.8. For a season, any QBR above 65 is Pro Bowl-caliber..."

Yeah I agree Pack. They tamper with the game too much. As much as their trying to make the game more exciting their shooting themselves in the foot with all these flags.

And just think. It used to be legal to beat on receivers all the way down the field. The NFL has been opening up the game for decades.

One interesting thing about rule changes is that I heard a record was set this weekend for kick return TD's. Don't know if that's true or not but if so that would be interesting since they moved kickoffs up.

I agree
I wouldnt mind their being a bump rule; only if it was a penalty if it was in the air. So, it could be bumping players while the ball isnt thrown yet. The rule changes really help the offense out. I am glad that this penalty isnt in Madden.
Even though shootouts are entertaining, I like to see 14-7/17-10/10-7 games. If these rules keep coming out to help passing games, It will be the norm to get 4000 yards passing and 5000 yards will be the elite number.

Re: Week 1 QB Performances

I think the numbers are going to balance out eventually. We may still set a record for passing yardage, but it's not going to shoot up for everyone at the same time. It'll slowly creep, as the rules have slowly creeped to allowing a more wide open, pass-happy attack. But it is still football. I can't stand when people say it's flag football out there because I sure as hell wouldn't volunteer to get slammed by some of these elite athletes. Unless I was getting paid handsomely... much like a QB.

I've said it to my friends, but I believe we're going to see less returns this year, but more or equal amount of return TD's. I've actually grown to like the strategy in deciding if it's smart to return a kick or just down it. The reward (TD, or a long return for good field posititon) is great, and it seems the chances of the reward have been improved, and obviously the risk is getting snowed in before the 20 yard line. You're going to not only need athletic, speedy players back there, but guys who have the smarts to assess the situation and decide if it's best to return or stick it in your pocket. Those extra 5-10 yards between the 20 and the 15 or 10 yard line can mean the difference between 3 points or a punt, a touchdown or a field goal.
