I really do think this is it, from the 90s to now; look how big the average player is in terms of strength, muscle and size. Its a bit difficult trying to wrap Brandon Jacobs isn't it?

But like most mentioned, thats not the only reason. Big hits cause big plays and highlight reels

It's not that they can't wrap or that players today are too big and too athletic. Many players don't wrap tackle because it won't get them on Sports Center. These guys would rather make the big pop that makes everyone go "DAMN THAT WAS A HIT!" While it works if you catch a guy close to the sidelines and you can knock him out of bounds, or you catch a receiver as he's making a catch. A perfect example was 56 from Atlanta trying to hit Matt Forte on Sunday, Forte was bumped a little bit but kept going and took it in for the TD. If he had wrapped up Forte he might have taken him down. IMO it's a product of players with the look at me attitude, kind of like guys celebrating like they just won the Super Bowl after making a routine play.

Kids growing up see the Brian Dawkins's of the world who destroy (used to ) guys on the field, and want to be just like that. Except that they forget that those guys also wrap up and make tackles--it's not all big, flashy hits

They talked about this on NFLN last night. Most NFL coaches IF they do tackling is once a week. Belichek of course does much more they said.

I have no idea.

I'd assume that coaches spend more time doing drills than getting fundamentals down.

Also, with the amount of red jerseys (don't touch) worn in practices, defensive players might just be in the mentality of holding up too often.
