Re: OS NFL Poll: Week 2

Power rankings according to PFT

1. Packers (No. 1; 2-0):

2. Saints (No. 2; 1-1):

3. Patriots (No. 5; 2-0):
4. Jets (No. 6; 2-0):

5. Chargers (No. 3; 1-1):

6. Falcons (No. 9; 1-1):

7. Lions (No. 12; 2-0):

8. Texans (No. 10; 2-0):

9. Ravens (No. 4; 1-1):

10. Steelers (No. 11; 1-1):

11. Bills (No. 13; 2-0):

12. Bears (No. 7; 1-1):

Top five looks about right, Eagles dropped dramatically this week. I would also have to put the Steelers and Ravens above the Texans and the Lions.

Wait, according to that the Saints were an 0-1 #2 last week? And Vick may miss a game bc of a concussion, while the team lost a game on the road to #6 ATL in their home opener after he left the game and they drop out of the top 12?

Ahh, gotta remind myself not to pay attention to these things until later in the year.

I think the Eagles dropping out of top 12 is a little bizarre, but if they ranked teams by their record there would be no reason to even have power rankings.

Not saying it should be by record, of course. But there is still no explanation for an 0-1 team to be considered the 2nd best team in the NFL. Certainly at least one of the other 15 teams that won during week 1 would be considered better, no? I'm not talking about them being ranked #2 this week. I don't agree but there's an argument for that. But when half the league is 1-0, there's no way I can see any 0-1 team being ranked 2nd overall.

As for the Eagles, I don't know what they were originally ranked or ranked after last week, but considering the offseason hype I'm sure it was pretty high. A loss on the road (home opener) to a team ranked #7 now and #9 before that game shouldn't knock them out of the top 12 unless the assumption is that Vick will miss half the season.

Let me also add I'm only even being critical bc it's PFT. These are all subjective, and kind of silly to nitpick this early in the year. But to publish a ranking, I think these are two pretty glaring errors in logic.

Meh power rankings are just opinions on how tou think a team looks and then just ranking them. This isn't the only powerankings to have the Saints in the top 5 this week and after last week

That's besides the point. Top 5 this week? Definitely. Top 5 last week? Ok. SECOND? That just makes no sense. There's really no explanation for it. They looked better in losing (was a great game, don't get me wrong) than EVERY other winning team, besides the one that actually beat them? Even a saints fan can't defend that.

Nah I can't but it's his opinion on the make up of the team and how they performed. If we were to go off just week one then the Ravens would have been my #2
