It's only slightly better than the best catching 2nd string FB. The teams I mentioned (other than SD) work two TEs into their offense bc they have 2nd TEs worth working in (THIS year).
he was still a better pass catcher last year. Hes been hurt this year. The cowboys havent been as good offensively. Hes also had to split time with Phillips because Phillips will be the 2nd TE next season. Phillips is almost as good as bennett and still has another year on his rookie contract and some other team will give Bennett more than rookie money.

I'm positive that was the Cowboys' intent when they drafted Bennett.
they cowboy wernt looking to go to a 2 TE system as far as passing. (They did go to a more 2 TE running system because Bennett was such a good blocker. in 09 they lead the league in 2 TE running with 5.0 YPC.) Witten catches about 90 passes a year. You cant have a 2 TE system when your 1st TE is that good. There just isnt enough targets left. The pats 2 TE system had a combined 87 catches last season

But he hasn't lived up to his expectations and therefore is still basically just behind Witten.
because people had unrealistic expectations, obviously. look at the posts in this thread one guy comperes his athleticism to antonio gates and hes not even in the same league athletically.

and still hes preforming pretty well in 2 TE system the 1B TE still only gets about 40 catches a year so how is 33 rec such a disappointment when Witten is getting 115+ targets a year? Are people are expecting Witten to get 100 catches, Austin to grab 70, Dez to grab 60, and still have Bennett with 50 catches too?

Witten wouldn't be getting 100 catches if Bennett was better. They don't want to throw to Witten or any one player that much. Most teams that have a player with 100+ catches don't have many other targets AND that player is good enough to get to that point.

Either way, you don't draft a TE in the 2nd round to be a blocker.

Bennett has gotten his fair share of chances. Whether he's a 'freak' or not, he SHOULD be a mismatch, and he is. Unfortunately, he does not take advantage of his opportunities.

I'm not too sure that he's a better blocker than Witten either. Witten is widely considered one of the best blocking TEs.

Just being tall isn't a mismatch. Bennett is slow, a poor route runner and not a jump ball guy. We knew all this before we drafted him.

6'6" with a 34" vertical is definitely a mismatch in the red zone at the very least

It isn't if you don't have the jump ball instinct otherwise every team would have a 6'6+ NBA reject as a redzone specialist.

Also if you assume a players wing span is roughly equal to height, then Bennett only has a 4 inch advantage over a 6'2 LB with a 37" vert that's a really tight window
