I'd argue a safeties responsibilities are different from a corners, but nearly the same.

It's one of the easiest transitions for a player to make in the sport.

I also think that American football specifically is one of the few sports where every player on the team from the punter to the quarterback plays an integral part in whether a team wins or loses games.

Safeties are the ones who are usually meant to bring added pressure, or prevent a big play. Your corners will always get beat at some point. Even someone like Revis is going to let a receiver get free once in a while, it's up to the safety to ensure that doesn't become a TD.

Hell it was a Safety who sacked Tom Brady and put him on IR for a year.

You're never going to find a position in professional football where they just don't matter. Having your punter have an exceptional game can easily lead a team to a W. It's very much a team sport, and while some players can make the pieces around them look better those instances are few and far between.

I think of Ricky Williams, Miami Dolphins.

Look at his 2002 & 2003 seasons, the guy was literally the Dolphins offense. He was run into the ground, touching the ball more in 2 years than any other player in the history of the game where he accounted for nearly 50% of the total offense both years. All this while having absolutely no talent around him on offense.

And people wonder why he prematurely retired.

JJ Watt just pretty much won the game for the Texans tonight. He singlehandedly took at least 13 points off the board with sacks and swatted balls at the line.

After Jim Brown I can't name another player off the top of my head on that 64/65 Browns team and they made back to back title games, winning in 64.

omg this, i loved ricky williams man. dude was a truck and had the speed of a corvette. I swear man i never saw that dude get caught from behind. had like over 800 touches in two years. If you could calculate the tonnage of stress put on his body in those two years you'll see that he took more punishment in those seasons then a lot of running backs take in their entire careers.

Ricky Williams was as gifted as any back in the NFL today during his prime. He's an example of what can happen when you play your career on bad football teams.

This almost feels like one of those 'write my essay for me' threads, been a while since I've seen one.
