Whoa, the parallels here are scary.

Is this the first 1-5 team to make the playoffs? I remember probably 10 years ago a 2-5 Jets team coming back and that was pretty rare. Funny Houston did that this year and gets to face a team that "one-upped" them so to speak.

I'm a sucker for an underdog and Houston's defense has turned it on, but I can't pick against KC's winning streak and team in general.

1970 Bengals went 1-6 including losing six in a row, but rebounded to win their last seven to become the first NFC wildcard team. (I looked it up)

The #1 seed Baltimore Colts shut them out 17-0 in the first round.

First, the Bengals (or the Colts) have never been in the NFC.

Second, there were no wildcards in 1970.

You're right, they started 1-6 and finished 8-6. But they made the playoffs as AFC Central champions.

Little too much partying for me. (See my last Supergirl post). Being a Baltimore Colt fan I know that in the merger year of 1970 they, Pittsburgh and Cleveland left the "National" side of the ledger to join the newly formed AFC to balance out the "new NFL" but somehow I still wanted to associate the Baltimore Colts with the "National" part of the equation. I have no idea how I gave Cincinnati the wildcard berth, because it was a big deal in the Baltimore/Maryland area about Shula leaving the Colts, and we just beat out the Fins for the division title. Also, it clearly shows up in the standings that Cincy won a division. So the 10-4 Dolphins were the first AFC wildcard team and the 10-4 Detroit Lions were the first NFC wildcard team.

MY BAD!!!

I had a similar brain fart.

I said there were no wildcards in 1970. What I meant was no Wildcard games. Of course there were wildcards, after the merger and the 3 divisions per conference there had to be.

How about Dallas beating Detroit 5-0 in those 1970 playoffs? Lol.

Technically this is true. The Baltimore Colts never played in the NFC. But it was the 1970 season when the NFC and AFC adopted these two conference names and it was also in 1970 when the Colts moved to the AFC. In 1969 the NFC was called the NFL and the AFC was called the AFL and in 1969, the Colts played in the NFL.
