Re: 2019 Offseason Thread

Fangio is the new head man in Denver

This has to be a bit of a blow for the Bears but I really like this hire by the Broncos. Now if Elway can draft well and keep his nose out of things this could be one of the more astute hires this offseason.

Browns hire Kitchens.
Broncos hire Fangio.

I think you're being way too harsh here. There are a lot of very fine football minds out there. In some respects the overall intelligence of coaches around the league is as good as its ever been. The issue is that owners are too laser focused on one particular kind of coach (namely looking for the next McVay) and thus some very capable coaches are being overlooked. This is why i'm happy to see Arians and Fangio get their jobs. Being the head coach is far more than just being able to call creative plays. You have to be able to be a leader of men and build a program and culture.

Pederson, Reich and Nagy are guys that have created a culture within their clubs and have been great at getting the most out of their QBs but they're not so singular focused on the offense to the detriment of the rest of the team. Pederson saw mistakes he was making during the year and sought to fix them. Reich didn't have the pulse of the room early on but then he modified and took less of a hands on role though still being very much involved in what's going on and lastly Nagy has allowed some of his players to become vocal leaders on and off the field.

Some of the coaches that have been hired I have serious reservations about especially LaFleur who I think may be bullied into doing everything Rodgers wants. Kingsbury is way too focused on the offense that he doesn't really have a feel for the entire squad hence all the defensive issues he's had as a HC in college and Kitchens is being elevated way too fast from QB coach to HC at the end of year is quite the jump. I feel like he needs to have a veteran guy on his staff who he can lean on which is why I hope Williams somehow stays there.

As semi-reported yesterday, Gregg Williams was also fired.

I have a feeling the Browns are going to regret this.

Hope Gregg lands somewhere else.

Who would have ever imagined given the choice of being the play caller or not being the play caller a coach would choose the job that lets him call the plays.

I loved what Gregg did for us but I don’t see anyway you can keep him while demoting him and promoting someone else from within, you want to talk about potential for mass dysfunction this is how you fast track it.

Wins aside, his decision making was suspect at times and our defence aside from takeaways was ranked near the bottom in a lot of categories. If it wasn't for the offense, his record wouldn't be what it shows.

All I've seen on Twitter is people moaning and criticising the Browns for letting 3G go but I'm certain they've not actually watched more than 5 minutes of a Browns game.
