Re: The Official Thread of the Philadelphia Flyers (Established 2005)

Unless we get a legit, bonafide, Cup-caliber goalie, none of our other pieces really matter all that much.

Whatever Anaheim wants for Giggy, we should give it to them. I'm tired of going into the playoffs with two 1-B goalies every year and hoping against hope that one of them plays well above his head. That worked last year for two rounds, but it'll never win you a Cup.

Briere's contract is definitely an albatross, but you can throw a few other guys into that category like Lupul, Jones, and Carle. The defense was seriously disappointing this season and featured only one guy who could provide offense (Timonen) and one guy who could reliably clear out in front (Alberts). The D most definitely needs to be upgraded across the board - which will also lighten the load on Timonen who just sees too much damn ice time (along with Richards and Carter who both play in every situation).

We also need to get Stevens the hell out of here, but that's another discussion.

Also, for those throwing dirt on the play of Richards and Carter during these playoffs, it's worth noting that Richie was playing with torn labrums in both his shoulders, and Carts separated his shoulder going hard into the boards behind the net in game 3. I'm surprised they were as effective as they were, given the circumstances.

Not to worry.... I think it's just something to throw out in this "we must have sports news 24 hours a day" world at this time of the year when not much is happening Philly sports wise.

I think it'd be worth looking into. If the guy got into the finals as an addict, now has cleaned up, & is only 26, then there's alot of upside there.

I would have a problem with it... except both our goalies are UFA's this offseason.

Emery wouldn't be the answer unless he really has cleaned up. I agree though that you need a good goalie to get you into the Cup run because the Fylers have a great nucleus going forward. Maybe if the Nucks trade Luongo, the Flyers should jump because he's that good

I know lol. Realistically though, I think they'd do well to bring Biron back if they can get him at a reasonable price. Not the greatest goalie, but solid enough to help the team compete
