Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

I don't think it would suck for the Leafs per say; I'm sure they'll be able to parlay their good contract management into taking advantage of the buyouts. There will likely be some quality vets available on minimum contracts after being bought out, not to mention any magic they can make happen on the trade market. It's just not as linear as buying out a bad deal.

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Most likely buy out for each team:

Arizona: Alex Goligoski. He wasn't bad, but if they want to try and keep Hall, they'll need to open up some cap space.
Toronto: None
Dallas: Joe Pavelski. There might be an argument to buyout Benn, but Pavelski seems like the low hanging fruit here.
St. Louis: Alex Steen
Vancouver: Loui Eriksson
Philadelphia: JVR? I'm not sure about Philly; they have some large contracts that aren't great but not completely terrible.
Chicago: Brent Seabrook
Washington: TJ Oshie. Could also be none, but I think the contract is just too long.
Vegas: MAF. Reinvest the money into Lehner and bring back MAF as a backup.
Florida: Michael Matheson
Edmonton: James Neal. Great trade, but his deal is still too long.
San Jose: Martin Jones. You could buyout a defenseman, but Jones has been horrendous in goal and at least the defensemen have been productive if overpaid.
Boston: John Moore
Pittsburgh: JMFJ
Buffalo: Kyle Okposo. More likely to not want to admit the Skinner contract was a failure.
Carolina: Jordan Staal. Could also be none for depending on your thoughts on intangibles.
Calgary: Milan Lucic
Tampa Bay: Yanni Gourde? Could also be none, not sure here.
Detroit: Justin Abdelkader. His contract is longer than Nielsen's.
Nashville: Kyle Turris
Anaheim: David Backes
Minnesota: Zach Parise
NY Islanders: Andrew Ladd
Winnipeg: Mathieu Perreault. Since he's suspended/retired, is Big Buff eligible? Since that is in question and Bryan Little is injured, I went with Perreault.
NY Rangers: Brendan Smith
Montreal: Shea Weber
Columbus: Alex Wennberg. The Atkinson deal looks bad in year one, but I'm not sure they'll want to bail on it. The thing with Wennberg is he's still young enough to get the 1/3 buyout, so they could compliance Atkinson and buyout Wennberg normally. More likely they just compliance Wennberg though.
Colorado: Erik Johnson
Los Angeles: Dustin Brown. Only because I think it would be easier to trade Jeff Carter.
Ottawa: Nikita Zaitsev. His deal is longer and there is more money left on it than Bobby Ryan's. Plus Ryan's deal is easier to buyout normally due to its structure.
New Jersey: Cory Schneider. His last good season was 2015-16. Subban's deal is more expensive (same length), but I think he's more likely to bounce back for a variety of reasons.

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Sucks for the Leafs who gave up their 1st rounder to clear cap space for a now basically lost season. I hope they are able to reacquire a good pick by taking some teams 2nd worst deal and use their buyout on that guy, if the CBA would allow such a quick buyout.

Biggest losers of all were whoever traded for rentals at the deadline. You got a few games out of those guys, no playoffs, and lose assets.

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Next up on my classic NHL games to watch, Stars vs Sabres 99 cup finals game 6.

One of the first seasons of hockey I watched. That Stars team was great. Nieuwendyk, Hull, Belfour and more. Those jerseys were nice too. Don't know why Dallas abandoned those ones. The Starbucks look of today would've been way better under the style of those jerseys.

And as much as I like the Sabres current look, I'll always like the Hasek era logo. Wouldn't mind them bringing that back as a throwback.

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Something I never knew existed but seems so weird to watch.

Gretzky vs Ovechkin in hockey...video game.

Wayne decked out like a regular fan in a hockey jersey, headset and controller isnt something I was expecting to see.

Yeah in these times of no sports this was really enjoyable. I saw it on twitch.
