Yeah, the IIHF & Hockey Canada are getting pretty gross with their price gouging. The last time the World Juniors were in Vancouver (2006), I bought a pair of tickets to a semifinal game (turned out to be USA/Russia) for 55 bucks each. Upper bowl, but they were at the blue line. Those days are done.

Re: 2017-2018 World Juniors

I EL-OH-EL'd watching the Swedish captain throw his silver medal into the stands.
Kid was obviously hurting and wanted nothing to do with a reminder about being 2nd-best.

What made me laugh even more was hearing the announcers criticize the kid for being a poor sport.

Hockey is the only sport where you're allowed, and encouraged(!) to have temper tantrums and act like a complete lunatic/cry baby - especially if you're Canadian;
"Look at that kids heart! He wants it so bad!!"

Yet, somewhere in that muddled mess - along with the rulebook - you're supposed to know where the imaginary line is so you don't act like too much like a d-bag.

Regarding the price gouging, the World JR's has definitely jumped the shark.
I used to live for this tournament, but the last couple of years, I haven't cared nearly as much.
It's overhyped, overpriced and the venues are oversized.
These games should be played in smaller Junior arena's (maybe play the semi's and finals in an NHL sized rink).

Re: 2017-2018 World Juniors

From the Canadian side I think what's hurt the past few years is lack of hyped stars. I think the mcdavid, Domi roster was last really hyped one. Got spoiled too with Crosby, Tavares, Stamkos, Subban, Price among others over a few years stretch.

But wjc like most sports don't seem to care as much about attendance anymore. The big money gets made on sponsorship and TV.

Though their captain was so upset he threw his medal in the crowd(and the guy in the crowd gave it back to the on ice staff after fans chanted "throw it back" lol)
I don't think anyone has ever claimed only Canadians care about the tournament. Just that US fans care about it much less than every other upper echelon team.

Would have liked to see a rematch in the final, but the top 2 teams from the tournament met in the final and settled it. This is the first time ever the US has medalled in 3 straight tournaments, and the first time in I think 7 or 8 tournaments the Russians haven't.

LOL, no. That isn't remotely true for the NHL, much less the freaking World Juniors. Revenue for the WJC is almost entirely gate-driven.

It seems that way based on how NHL isn't as concerned about poor attendance in certain markets and keeps emphasizing how many different platforms people consume hockey on.
