Yes, that's probably for the best.

Re: NHL 2018 Off-Season Thread

Hossa is retiring(hasn't played all season due to the controversial LTIR placement for his "allergic reaction to hockey equipment"). Joins likes of Fisher, Sedins, Iginla, Jagr as guys from the 90s we won't be seeing in the NHL in the 18-19 season(Iginla didn't play in NHL this year either, but there was at least chance he could've)

Any bets on who'll be the last player standing from the 90s?

Marleau, Thornton, Cullen, Chara or Luongo? My moneys on Marleau.

-Luongo hasn't played more than half a season since 15-16. He's under contract till 21-22, although the final 3 years of his contract he's getting a total of 3.6M, so what's the point of sticking around for that?

-Cullen is now basically a 3rd/4th line guy, and hasn't missed many games, but he will be 42 next season.

-Chara still a top 4 dman, but his contract expires after next season and will be 41.

-Thornton before this year has rarely missed games. Has never won the cup, and if he doesn't stay in San Jose, can just see him signing with a cup contender for a final season or 2.

-Marleau hasn't missed a game in about a decade and is signed for 2 more seasons. I don't see him retiring before that.

The Sedins were drafted in the 90s, but didn't play in the NHL until the 2000/01 season. Zetterberg also falls into this category. Luongo will probably come back for 2019/20 if he's playing reasonably well but just short of 500 career wins. Wouldn't shock me if all the players you mentioned hang around until the 19/20, TBH. Won't see any after the lockout wipes away half the 20/21 season, of course.

Re: NHL 2018 Off-Season Thread

Interesting development. Lou going to the Islanders(as many expected), but he's apparently held talks with Tavares while representing the Islanders. The NHL is ok with this (despite him not officially being part of the Islanders as of yet).

Another note is that the Kovy watch could lead him to joining Islanders given his history with Lou in NJ (NY was a rumored destination for him, but it seemed like Rangers at the time of those rumors). If Kovy joins the Islanders, could that convince Tavares to stay? And what might that Islanders team be like with a top line of Kovy/Tavares!?

In Leafs news, apparently Mark Hunter isn't with the staff during the Memorial Cup. No reason yet, but people have thought he could be going elsewhere (NYI would be an obvious destination, especially if Lou can get Snow out and replace him with Hunter as GM). A suggestion in the past was that if Hunter leaves, Leafs could bring in Ron Francis as an assistant(him and Dubas have that SSM connection).

Knowing the "hockey culture", the Lou announcement I'd expect on Thursday because they want to let the spotlight remain on the ECF and once the series is done, they'll announce it(similar to how Leafs announced Dubas as GM the day after 2nd round was officially over)

Re: NHL 2018 Off-Season Thread

Supposedly the Sharks are close to re-signing Evander Kane for 7/49.

I mean, good luck with that, I guess.

As a Wings fan I feel this thread should have been started last October.
