Re: Welcome to the Dawg Pound
Brandon Weeden Leads Browns to Come From Behind Win in Scrimmage
Rookie Leads Browns on Game-Winning Drive to Defeat Broncos
The biggest knock against Brandon Weeden coming out of college wasn't his throwing motion or his footwork, but instead it was his age. Teams passed on Weeden because developing a 28-year old to become a franchise quarterback is a perfect definition of an oxymoron.
In NFL years, Weeden is just a rookie, but his life experiences has prepared him for what went down in Denver in a scrimmage.
The Broncos started off fast, scoring 17 points in the first quarter while holding the Browns scoreless, but what ensued with about over a minute to go is where legends are made.
"Travis [Benjamin] is a burner, so when I saw one-on-one coverage my eyes lit up."
Rookie to Rookie. Weeden to Benjamin. With 1:03 left in the game and trailing by six, Weeden fired a rifle to Benjamin as he shook free of the corner which would result in the game winning touchdown. Earlier in the drive Weeden hit another rookie Josh Gordon on a 67 yard pass that led to the touchdown strike.
"It's cool, we can celebrate for now, but there's plenty more work to be done," said Weeden. "And we have the talent around here to become much better."
