So i popped in Live 08 earlier today...

And the game is not nearly as bad as everybody says. I actually think that some things were better back then...let me explain

The PA announcer got you into the game to start, the player intros were great

The ability to hit LT for a replay was great for reviewing things you wanted to see again from a different angle

The riding animations of defenders staying with their PG's were very well executed (there's also a really nice reach in from behind animation after the defender is beaten)

The in-game music is much louder in comparison to live 10

The manual 2-step shooting animations were a pleasant change from live 10

Feet planting seems much better in Live 08, on certain crossovers it is really evident

The charge system is much better, and pressuring the ballhandler looks and feels much better

The color of jerseys in comparison to the rest of the arena is much better, colors aren't too bright like some appear to be in Live 10 (though every arena has the darked lakers effect)

Kobe elevates more on his shot and goes straight up, looking more like his real life form

However, gameplay wise Live 10 is a huge step up. But artistically, there are some things that need to be brought back

Without question the foot planting system in that game was the best of any of basketball game to date hands down.

I'm not sure why they ever scrapped that part of the game........

There was absolutely no sliding at all either and players felt and moved as if they were grounded to the floor.

Now the gameplay was ****ty and in order to make it playable you had to damn near tweak the entire game...........

But IMO after playing 2K10 and Live 10 neither game gives you the feeling of Live 08 in terms of Foot Planting and watching players actually take steps on the floor

footplanting was good, but the other animations and the rebounding were huuuuge factors in it's failure.

The animation of Kobe getting past his defender (before the ridiculous dunk) needs to back badly in '11.

that mix actually wasn't too bad. It basically hides many of the problems in Live though. I will agree though, foot planting was pretty good in 08 and I like many of the animations there that don't seem to be in Live 09 or Live 10.

It was frustrating getting good looking plays, but once I did I didnt do anything specific with the cameras to hide certain players or animations.


If only 07 has better animations and transitions, the footplanting in that can be considered perfect....despite the rest of the game being terrible

Although the post moves you could actually do in Live 08 were limited, the control and options were eons better than Live 10.

I actually miss that.

I also like the smaller proportioned player models.
