With the dust settling from an eventful E3, there has been a lot of hype about the next generation of sports gaming. One of the games which has been largely overlooked during the past week due to it not having a next-gen version is NCAA Football 14.

Quietly, NCAA Football 14 had a great E3 with the debut of the Infinity Engine and new run game controls within the series which have left many with positive hands-on ... Read More

The calm before the storm has set in across the sports gaming landscape -- if you count an NBA 2K14 cover athlete announcement plus more information on PES being released yesterday as calm that is.

There is one group of people I do not envy in the least and that is the marketing team at EA Sports for the delicate balance they are going to have to be striking up over the next week.

Gamers want to see ... Read More

We all remember the magic Madden movie which set this entire generation of Madden up for failure -- that pre-rendered trailer set graphical and gameplay expectations so high, it ended up being a generation ahead of its time.

In essence, the next-generation of Madden in that 2005 trailer was actually the next-next generation of Madden.

To quote a famous pop artist (loosely), "Oops, they did it again." ... Read More

During EA's quarterly conference call, acting CEO Frank Gibeau announced new titles were coming from EA Sports, and we know that one of them is not NBA Live.

Gibeau mentioned the titles EA was already planning to release this year by name, "This includes our core sports titles of Madden, FIFA, FIFA Manager, NBA LIVE, NHL, and NCAA Football."

It has been speculated EA will be announcing new sports ... Read More

In what is supposedly the completely revamped presentation of NCAA Football, it appears there's a new mistake or oversight to add to the list from promotional screenshots.

In a recently released screenshot of the Oklahoma and Texas game, the end zones are actually marked incorrectly in relation to the crowd in screenshots released on April 30, 2013. In the real game in the Cotton Bowl, the end zones actually ... Read More

After 22 years of successful partnership, Madden is no longer on a Nintendo platform.

In a move we all suspected to be true when EA didn't mention Madden on the Wii U at their preview event earlier this spring, Madden NFL Football will not be on a Nintendo platform this year for the first time since 1991.

This abandonment of the Wii U by EA can be taken in only one way: EA does not see Nintendo's new

Improved presentation with generic player graphics. Yeah.

In what was an accidental admission of a lack of caring, one particular screenshot from the EA presentation trailer appears to show a stunning lack of care for details within NCAA Football 14.

In the image above you see three Oregon players with completely generic uniforms in the graphic. No actual team uniforms at all within that screen.

Name three things you think about when I say college football.

For me, it is tradition, pagentry, classic programs, classic coaches, the stadiums, the rivalries. Oh, yeah, and the great players.

Understandably so, when I heard NCAA Football 14 was getting Ultimate Team mode, I wasn't surprised. Digital revenues are a priority at Electronic Arts these days and ultimate team modes are how they ... Read More

The Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 Demo released earlier this week and in between play sessions of the MLB games, I managed to get some playtime in with the demo. Here are my initial thoughts:
  • The graphical styling is hit or miss. The Classic Moment graphics were way toned down and, to me, they looked ugly/muddy. The graphics seemed way too underexposed even for heavy rain conditions. The entire game seems much darker, and

This is the second year of sports gamers getting to play The Show on Vita. This year's effort is incredibly impressive. MLB 13: The Show plays incredibly well on the PS Vita system, with no hiccups of any kind to be seen -- which isn't unexpected for a first party title. The game plays so well, it could be considered one of the greatest handheld games of all time when the dust settles on release day.

I've gotten ... Read More

Hey guys, last week was an incredibly busy news cycle so I wasn't able to get this sim completely done last week as planned. I simulated the semifinals yesterday and am simulating the championship later today.

It's been incredibly fun to see NCAA Football 13 simulate a playoff that was set up very close to what we see in FCS football. To me it brings home the point that a 20 team playoff or more would be a gigantic ... Read More

Consider the following screenshot of the upcoming PS4 game Killzone: Shadow Fall. Consider the fact that this is a launch title on a console, the first generation of software. Consider how no first generation software title on a new console looks nearly as good as it's peers later in the cycle. Just imagine all of that as you look at the following high-res screenshot:

NCAA Football 07.

NCAA Football has had an interesting go of it on the current console generation. Most of the series' leaps came within the middle of this generation with Online Dynasty and the momentum engine that was still in use with this past year's game. However, it seems like NCAA's presentation is still incredibly similar to earlier versions, even as far back as NCAA Football 07 -- with similar camera sweeps and ... Read More
