This week’s episode is a conversation with a full panel all about FIFA – namely, EA’s relationship to the embattled global organization and the reaction to the recent announcement of the inclusion of women into this fall’s FIFA 16. To what extent should EA evaluate its partnership with FIFA, considering the damning revelations of corruption and near-slave labor building World Cup stadiums? Should we be happy that a dozen women’s national teams have been added for FIFA 16, or should we be unhappy that there’s not more that can be done with them? It’s a spirited debate that goes in several unexpected directions.
Enjoy!

This week’s episode features Cicero Holmes and Ryan Lewis joining host Rich Grisham to talk about a host of subjects. The three chat about how they approach their favorite sports games, whether or not the “real world” influences their attitude with the virtual equivalent, what their go-to franchise is, what they would like to get into if only there were more time, and much more. In addition, Ryan takes Cicero and Rich down the bizarre Joe Montana Football rabbit hole, offering up several theories on what that operation may actually be doing. It’s a fun episode that spans sports games in the present, the past, and the future.

Enjoy!

Guest video poster Douglas Veney checks in today with a look at a couple of the new gameplay mechanics in MLB 15 The Show!

In MLB 15 The Show, the smart decisions are what win you the game. The game features a few new mechanics this year that go a long way in helping you execute a great strategy.

At first glance it might appear that "Timing" hitting is gone, but it's been renamed to "Directional" and features a new twist. Players are now able to influence their swing to a variety of directions to perform sacrifice hits, hit & runs, and other plays with much more accuracy.

Defensive shifts are incredibly easy to call, and deliver a fantastic risk/reward factor. Know that your opponent is preparing to squeeze off a bunt? Shift your infield to give your team a better chance at stopping them.

What does the 2015 Major League Baseball season have in store for us? We simulated it with Out of the Park Baseball 16 to get a glimpse into what we might witness this year. We used the game's default settings and played in commissioner mode, which means we didn't run a team and instead simply watched the season unfold.

Out of the Park Baseball features the most sophisticated simulation engine of any baseball management game available, and it uses Baseball Prospectus's PECOTA projection system to produce the player ratings that feed the engine.

Here's how the season ended...

Our friend Jake Berger is creating a new series counting down the 25 best sports-games of all time. Be sure to watch his videos and leave your feedback on if you agree or not!

Sports games have forever been in great demand.

Such demand has historically been filled by publishers seeking to provide gamers with a virtual representation of their favorite sports. Of course, this representation often comes in many flavors, the wide-ranging tastes of the sports gaming public have permitted experimentation regarding sports game development over the years.

The results of such experimentation have yielded two general forms of sports games: simulation and arcade. Both represent a developer’s attempt to replicate a particular sport with varying degrees of authenticity. But striking a balance between realism and fun has proven quite difficult.

While developers on the whole have attempted to cater to a diverse set of sports gaming desires, relatively few have been successful. So today I welcome you to aid me as I venture forth in the hopes of discovering the 25 greatest sports game of all time.

Before we set sail, know that the games on this list are ranked according to their critical reception, general fan perception, influence on future sports titles, and of course, a dash of personal preference.
And now, let’s begin our voyage, and cruise through the countdown with part one.

For the first time since the 2014 Game of the Year show, we get the regular gang back together to look ahead to what 2015 may have to offer. Rather than lining up each game and wondering what it will be, the crew contemplates questions such as which sports game franchise has the most at stake, whether or not any major game will dramatically shift its approach, and how potential indie sport games may disrupt or influence licensed fare. It’s great to have most of our regular crew back to kick off a new season!

Enjoy the show!
