You guys who think VC will give you the power to edit things to make it seem like a NFL licensed game are dreaming. Take 2 doesn't have the money to go up against EA or th NFL in court. They have enough problems with fighting lawsuit for Grand Theft Auto.

I'm sorry but you are just flat out wrong. 2k will be fine as long as they don't provide logos that look exactly like NFL logos. Also, EA can file suit against 2k only the NFL can because the NFL is the only entity that owns the logos, stadiums, team names and uniforms. I seriously doubt that the NFL would sue 2k as long as 2k doesnt directly infringe their intellectual property. If they did they would have an extremely weak case.

The key is changing the file without setting off a "trip wire" in the file that lets the system know it was changed. If the game can do, a PC can do it, it comes down to how skilled the person trying is. "Reverse engineering" static files with encryption and check sums so even after changing its contents it appears untouched to the actual program that uses it is a pretty basic part of file editing. Some protection methods are obviously more difficult than others. I guess I'll take your word that MS's is particularly difficult, although I'd be interested to know which saved games files people have been trying to edit outside of the 360.

EA could not file a direct infringement suit but could file some type of interference suit if the right circumstances presented themselves. Agree, though, that such a suit would be thin.

Exactly. And I dont think EA or the NFL would waste their time and money. EA and the NFL are more likely to threaten to sue the websites that host "NFL" roster files. Thats what EA and the Premier League did to Soccergaming.com and other sites when they hosted premier league patches for WE with real stadiums, players and uniforms. Thats also the reason why you wont find any "NFL" rosters on OS.
