Why would EA not have the licenese to these guys. They had the license last year, and it's unlikely they license all those legends they had on a year to year basis.
EA has the rights to all NFL hall of fame players, not exclusive.

They could have just edited both players. I notice the helmets are not "period specific" in their use of the American flag, which I don't believe was on the helmets pre 9-11 (but I could be wrong.)

I would think that 2K got some exlusivity, unless the HOF license (which I believe EA has) allows them to use any HOF player if they want..

I really don't know.

But like I said, it could just be pictures of two edited players to "give 2K the business"...as one referee might say.
That's what I'm thinking. You have 3 factors coming into play with these pics.

The Bears/Packers/Lions Rivalry

The names of the players

The stadiums they are in

If you ask me, it's EA saying, "Here's your legends the way they are supposed to be, the proper teams uniforms stadiums and situations."

They don't say, "This is Walter Payton." They let their NFL license and how that allows them present each player in theri respective uniforms and stadiums say that.

Pretty much what I figured. Since Sanders and Payton are in APF, it's pretty obvious it's not exclusive.

More than likely, you are right. I just find it curious that faces were omitted in favor of backsides.

Which then leads to two things:
1) EA has HOF players under the HOF license umbrella.
2) 2K didn't negotiate exclusivity.

Why show their faces? They were in game action shots. And, really who gives a **** what their faces look like. How often have you been playing a football game, and seen a guys face?

As far as your 2 choices, I agree, they are probably both true.

Its the HOF umbrella, in madden 07 last year the producer was talking about how they have the rights to NFL Films and the Hall of Fame.

Thats why we subjected to that gamer level unlocking HOFers thing.

Which pisses me off more about EA presentation with madden, they couldnt do a studio show with NFL network or ESPN? Gimme a break.

Just thinking about madden makes me want to punch things.

I'm absolutely fine with legends being with Madden....the more the better. I REALLY, FREAKING HATE this exclusivity crap.

I just hope in Madden the legends aren't injected in to your franchise unless you really want them to be.
