Amen. It might have been an option during last gen, when the PS2 was so far superior to the Xbox in units sold, but at this point with 3 major players in the current consoles it would potentially alienate 33%+ of their potential customers to exclude anyone.

No chance that is happening.

I'm wondering how the NFL likes the idea of 2K signing it's retired players to create a game to rival the NFL-exclusive EA game.

Those players are free to market themselves however they want once they retire. The NFL has no say in the matter. I'm sure the NFL is fine with it. At the end of the day, it's all helping to promote professional football, right?

Doesn't the NFL exclusivity deal that EA run until like 2011? I believe it was a 5 year deal with the option to renew after 3, I don't think it expires next year.

But I do agree with all points about how this is a good idea on 2k's part.

Unfortunately a game of legends is not going to win over the "pimple faced" market. 17-and-under-year-olds (or so) don't really give a rat's *** about legends. They want all the glitz and feel of the real NFL coupled with the notion that many are Stepford gamers for Madden. It's gonna be a tough crowd to win over without an NFL license.

Make that 2 years from now. 2K has already stated that this would become biannual series if it does well this year.

The NFL would have no right to complain. They've been screwing over retired players with a crappy pension for years.
