Re: Extended Backbreaker (Post-Patch) Gameplay Footage

Impressed mainly by the fact that the corners will sit on routes and punish you for constantly throwing the deep ball. It appears they'll no longer aid your cause by simply taking worse than bad angles while looking unaware. I saw an interception both underneath a WR route, and a ball that was largely overthrown on a streak; that's really good to see, and as a user, it should make me second guess more of where I should throw the ball. Pre-patch, I couldn't say that was the case because again the CPU CB's, and safeties would take angles at the ball that would make it look like they were trying to play defense, but they'd either ended up over, or under pursuing the ball causing for a litany, and largely unwarranted big plays. Speaking of safeties, I like the way they take advantage of being in the receiver's blind side at times, delivering an unexpected hit which intern jostles the ball loose against receivers who may not be the cream of the crop.

As for the CPU, I liked the fact that there was no biases in which who the QB decided to throw the ball to. No jump throws, and the QB appeared to be aware of what was going on around him and when to get rid of the ball rather from pressure or having an open man. In the first quarter, I actually liked one of the draw plays the CPU executed on 3rd down. The user called a zone which required all of the LB's to go back and cover a deep area on the field, and the CPU caught him off guard with a conservative play for the first down (which led to them capitalizing off the TO). In the first qt, they could have just been happy that they were FG range and thought the run was a low risk high reward situation; same with the second run when they are already up 10. I'm not sure the style of the CPU team that was playing, but it's not completely unheard of that a team in real life will take the safe route and take the three points even when approaching the opposing team's red zone.

Overall, the game appears to be playing a much better, and realistic brand of football.

Football is chaotic by nature. You aren't supposed to know everything that's happening at every moment.
Yeah but that happens once every 10 plays? Making the other 9 plays boring...it's a video game man, it's not "real " football.

I think most people, like myself, would rather have more control of as much of the action as possible rather than play a linebacker simulator.

I have 4 other buddies who all play video game football...and they all looked at Backbreaker and had the same response after playing it, they couldn't tell what was going on and hence they weren't interested. I'm the only guy the game "stuck" with, I liked it and bought it (though I think it would better with better cams). According to my numbers, the development company isolated 80% of it's potential market and shut them out. I don't care what market you're in, if you're turning off 80% of your potential customers because you're going to do it "your way"...you're in trouble. We're conditioned (for better or worse) to seeing video game football a certain way and I don't care how revolutionary a technology is, you're not going to change the populous at large. It's just not going to happen.

D-Line is where the action is at.

Until the ball leaves the QB's hand then you can't tell where the action is...

This, 100% agree. I like the camera the way it is.

If you understand the game and understand how to play the multiple positions and the reads associated with them you are never "lost". Just because you arent in on the tackle doesnt mean you dindt serve a purpose. I like a simulation of football this delivers that better than the competition by a long shot.

I get that, but to deny that's it's confusing for the average gamer all you're doing is kidding yourself. All I'm saying is why not give us the option of mutiple cams that's all? It's serves absoultely no purpose to appeal to the very small percentage (by being stubborn about the cam options) of people like yourself who want to play a LB or QB simulator. It's idiotic and the end result is going to be yet another franchise in gaming that just disappears. And it would be a shame because like I said, they do so many things in their first attempt that EA hasn't been able to do in 30 years.
