Good luck in probably the toughest division in MLB. A-Rod's power is going to be tough to make up for by Ransom.

Re: New York Yankees Franchise and Manager Report (MLB 09 The Show)

Game 4 of this 3 game series in Kansas City
0-3 at 2-1

PITCHING MATCH-UP
Andy Pettitte 0-0 0.00 vs. Horacio Ramirez 0-0 0.00

*Yankees can not muster any offense, fall to Royals 4-2*

April 10, 2009 - The Yankees now batting a team average of .174 need to do something to get on track.

Game four of this early season was another repeat of the first three games for the Yankees as they were downed by Kansas City 4-2. SP Horacio Ramirez went seven innings giving up five hits and two earned runs en route to the victory.

Long reliever Phil Coke of the Yanks cemented his stay in the bullpen as he tossed some much needed long relief for the Yankees in this one.

At the dish, the Royals got all four of their runs from David DeJesus and Michael Alives. 1B Billy Butler was 3-4 with 3RBI for the Royals.

For the Yankees, the lone runs came off of C Jorge Posada and DH Juan Miranda who both picked up their second run batted in's of the new year.

The Yanks will now look to Joba Chamberlain to lead them to victory, hopefully their first victory of the new year.

In minor league action the AAA Yankees and the AA Trenton Thunder both fell to their opponents 5-1 and 5-4, respectively. Scranton now goes to an even 1-1 while the Thunder are 1-2.

Re: New York Yankees Franchise and Manager Report (MLB 09 The Show)

Game 5 for the Yanks - Still looking for win number one
0-4 at 2-2

PITCHING MATCH-UP
Joba Chamberlain 0-0 0.00 vs. Sidney Ponson 0-0 0.00

*Yanks show signs of life but lose 5th straight, 6-3*

April 11, 2009 -
The Yankees are still winless and there are some serious concerned faces inside the locker room. However, manager Oli Degu says, "this pain can only help us, not hurt us."

The Yanks knocked out 11 hits today but were drowned early by an early 4-0 deficit. The Yankees played enough to win today but could not put the hits together at the same time.

SP for the Yanks Joba Chamberlain went five inning, giving up five earned runs and getting the loss. RP Brian Bruney was magnificent in relief going two and two thirds and striking out four.

The Royals saw their "Mr. April" 1B Billy Butler deliver again, as he would go two for three from the dish. 3B Mark Teahen was two for four with a monster homerun coming in the second.

For the Yanks, SS Derek Jeter knocked in all three runs while going two for five. CF Brett Gardner scored two runs and hit two doubles for his team en route to the loss.

Also, two milestones were reached in this game. Winning pitcher for the Royals Sidney Ponson recorded his 1,000th strikeout while 3B Ramiro Pena notched his first major league hit with a single in the 5th inning.

The Yankees will try to turn this early losing streak around in the rubber match against the Royals.

In minor league action, the Scranton Yanks torched the IronPigs 12-3 and are now 2-1. The Trenton Thunder saw closer Kevin Whelan record his second save in as many chances as the Thunder defeated the Mets(AA) 11-7 and its record now stands at 2-2.

A quick look around the MLB shows the so far that the Yankees are the only winless team while the Orioles, Twins and Angels have come out hot and currently are leading their repsective AL divisions.

In the NL the Padres are the only team who has not lost a game yet. The Phillies and Mets are tied for first in the NL East while the NL Central is currently so tight that the last place team is only 1.0 GB behind the leading team.

Re: New York Yankees Franchise and Manager Report (MLB 09 The Show)

Game 6 for the Yanks - Still looking for win number one
0-5 at 3-2

PITCHING MATCH-UP
C.C. Sabathia 0-1 9.53 vs. Zach Grienke 1-0 1.08

*Yanks leave Kansas City with a sour taste in its mouth*

April 12, 2009 - The Yankees can get no breaks right now, any way you slice it.

Zach Grienke, the Royals starter pitched to one batter and then had to leave the game (injury not disclosed by team) leaving a hefty trio of relievers to finish the nine innings. Those relievers being John Bale, Kyle Farnsworth and Robinson Tejada.

John Bale would end up going five innings pitched and earning the win.

The Yankees starter, C.C. Sabathia was not very good for his second consecutive outing, this time going five, giving up eleven hits and five earned runs.

This was a relatively close game until 1B Billy Butler of the Royals blasted a two run home-run in the eighth to make it 7-1. He is batting a modest .480 on the year so far.

The Royals also got timely hitting in the fifth from CF Coco Crisp and C Miguel Olivo, who both knocked in some runs.

For the Yankees, same story every game so far. Get some people on base, but no timely hitting. In this series the Yankees hit .208 with no home-runs and scored only six runs in three games en route to the opponent sweep.

DH Derek Jeter was two of three with the lone run scored for the Yanks. The Yankees will be back in action tomorrow as they get ready for their AL East with the Tampa Rays.

The minor league report is shady because the reporter forgot the inofrmation and says ah heck with it, I will get it next time!

Re: New York Yankees Franchise and Manager Report (MLB 09 The Show)

Game 7 for the Yanks - Still looking for win number one
0-6 at 3-3

PITCHING MATCH-UP
A.J. Burnett 0-0 8.31 vs. Scott Kazmir 0-0 8.54

*Yankees bullpen blows lead late, Yanks still winless*
April 13, 2009 -What will it take for the Yanks to break out of this major start of the season slump?

This game started with a bang as Rays 1B Carlos Pena hit a towering two run shot in the bottom of the first. However that is all that Yankees starting pitcher A.J. Burnett would allow. Burnett finished strong and getting the no decision. Burnett's final stats for this game key him pitching six innings, while giving up eight hits and striking out five.

The Yankees tied this game up in the top of the second as C Jorge Posada hit his first home run of the year. Posada would finish the game three for four with two RBI.

RF Hideki Matsui would ground into a bases loaded double-play to bring home the go ahead run in the top of the fourth as the Yanks led three to two.

However as the final moments of the game apporached, it was the Yankees bullpen against the Rays bullpen. And for this game, advantage Rays.

Rays' RP Brian Shouse, JP Howell and Grant Balfour would pick up thier starter and toss shut-out baseball through the later innings. Not the case for the Yankees as the combintation of RP Brian Bruney and Damaso Marte would not even record an out. Bruney gave up the game tying hit and Marte took the loss as he gave up two runs on three hits.

The Yanks now drop to 0-7, still looking for win number one!

In minor league action, the AAA affiliate the Scranton Yanks defeated the Buffalo Bison 5-1. SP Alfredo Aceves picked up his first win of the year while RF Xavier Nady is batting a crisp .350 thru 5 games. The Yanks record is now 3-2.

The AA affiliate, the Trenton Thunder took care of the Harrisburg Senators 1-0 behind strong pitching and Kevin Whelan who recorded his third save of this early new year. RF James Cooper is also on fire batting .421. The Thunder are also 3-2 in the standings for now.
