Yeah, I'm really excited that he's starting to heat up. He's been getting on, his OBP is around .400. He was just getting singles and walking though. He's started pounding it this past week, and my team has been doing good. If Peavy can turn it up I'm really excited about this season.

The closer situation was kind of a toss up going into the season. The roster was made before Bell broke out last season, but he's still really good. He and Meredith are about even. I went with Cla first and if Bell showed signs of dominance I would plug him in, but he didn't. He started off really badly but has turned it around recently. Cla is doing just fine in the closer spot now, but if he starts to struggle I won't hesitate to try Bell out in some closing situations.

Dodgers: Manny Ramirez (1-4, 2 RBI) (.337, 4 HR, 21 RBI)

Ron Burgundy's Game Notes
That's three in a row from the division leaders, we are really picking up ground in this long series.
This win locks up a series win against the Dodgers, that's something to really be proud of right now.
Scott Hairston has been solid in the leadoff spot, his average has spiked to well above .300 since he was given the role.
Adrian Gonzalez is still swinging the stick, add another RBI to his total in this little streak.
Heath Bell was able to get a save in this game because Cla Meredith was unavailable since he's pitched three straight days.
Shawn Hill has been a huge asset for us, he lowered his ERA to under three in getting his first win of the season.

Re: San Diego Padres - Time To Get Classy (OOTP10)

SHaynes23,

Shawn Hill has been great for you! I remember the beginning of the year you had a platoon with Gerut and Hairston. Are you still using that platoon or have you gone solely to Hairston because of his recent production? Also, what are you getting from your current LF spot? Gerut looked to be swinging a solid stick early, as I was reading I was going to recommend him as your leadoff hitter but before I go to your last post you had put Hairston there HAHA.

Last question. What version of OOTP are you using?

I've still got a platoon of Gerut/Hairston in the leadoff spot for center field. I'm working Hairston into the lineup against righties by playing him every 3rd game in left field. Chase Headley gets the other two starts. I'm planning on starting to post my stats for all my players weekly again instead of the team leader table. That'll keep everybody updated on my daily rosters better than the team leaderboard. And I'm using OOTP10. Thanks for reading so far.

Ron Burgundy's Game Notes
Even though we dropped this game, we still end this four game stand with three wins against the division leader.
Jeff Niemann was not sharp at all out there today, he continues to be a roller coaster, high highs and low lows.
Heath Bell came in and pitched 3.2 innings of perfect baseball, he continues to impress after a slow start.
Everth Cabrera was all over the field today, he hasn't been getting on base much, but when he does the other team pays.
Manny Ramirez got on a roll today, when he's locked in there isn't much you can do with him.
Tonight we head back to San Diego for a much needed stop at Casa de Burgundy and I get to see my furry friend Baxter.

Re: San Diego Padres - Time To Get Classy (OOTP10)

Series Preview

Colorado Rockies (11-12, 4th in NL West, 3 GB) @ San Diego Padres (9-16, 5th in NL West, 6 GB)

Rockies Top Hitters
1. Ian Stewart (.303, 8 HR, 19 RBI)
2. Dexter Fowler (.333, 4 HR, 13 RBI)
3. Garrett Atkins (.308, 3 HR, 18 RBI)

Probable Pitchers (Subject to Change)
Jason Marquis (0-2, 7.33 ERA) vs. Jake Peavy (1-4, 8.10 ERA)
Greg Smith (2-2, 7.50 ERA) vs. Chris Young (2-1, 4.97 ERA)

Ron Burgundy's Thoughts
This is an interesting short two games series. We have our ace and number two starters going against two of their weaker pitchers, but Peavy and Young haven't exactly had top of rotation stuff. Peavy had one great start, then fell back to sub-par pitching in his last start. Chris Young is really starting to come around, he's somebody our rotation can fall in line with and be very successful. Our offense has been firing on all cylinders lately, Scott Hairston and Adrian Gonzalez have really jump started their games. We have to be careful though because the Rockies have a very potent offense. Ian Stewart is hammering the ball this year, and Dexter Fowler has been very active in being the best rookie in the NL so far this year. With a two game sweep here we can get right in the mix with the rest of the NL West, that's something we need to shoot for to keep our hopes alive for 2009. It's good to be back in San Diego, I'll see you all at Tino's after the game for some great steak and scotch.

Padres: Nick Hundley (2-4, HR, RBI) (.261, 6 HR, 19 RBI)

Ron Burgundy's Game Notes
There's the Jake Peavy we all know. He made a few mistakes, but for the most part was his old dominating self.
Lots of people had Ubaldo Jimenez being a great pitcher this year, he hasn't put up any results yet.
Nick Hundley put another homer on the board, he has already surpassed his career high of 5.
Cla Meredith came back from a day's rest and pitched a clean ninth to pick up another save.
Chase Headley continues to struggle, he's batting under .200. He's got potential, but at some point he may give up his permanent spot to Scott Hariston, who's on fire.
Another move might be giving David Eckstein another shot at second base, Edgar V. Gonzalez has hit a wall.
