Re: New York Yankees Franchise(GM:Andre (me))
November 13:
Yankees offer SP Francisco Liriano 4 years/18.39 million Yankees offer SP Andy Pettitte 1 year/2.54 million Yankees offer RP Rafael Soriano 4 years/54.13 million with player option Yankees offer RP Scott Downs 3 years/7.97 million Reports say the Yankees don't have much interest in Albert Pujols, however if they see their rivals the Red Sox get involved in the mix, things could change quickly after all the Yankees do have a DH spot open on their team. November 14: Giants re-signed 1B Aubrey Huff for 2 years/6.88 million Padres re-signed SP Jon Garland for 2 years/10.08 million Cardinals re-signed 1B Albert Pujols for 6 years/106.56 million Braves re-signed CP Billy Wagner for 2 years/21.36 million Mariners re-signed CP David Aardsma for 1 year/4.36 million, avoiding arbitration. Pirates re-signed RF lastings Milledge to 1 year/2.60 million, avoiding arbitration Brewers re-signed RF Corey Hart to 1 year/5.30 million, avoiding arbitration Diamondbacks re-signed SP Wandy Rodriguez to 2 years/13.52 million, avoiding arbitration Marlins re-signed 2B Dan Uggla to 2 years/4.80 million, avoiding arbitration Rangers re-signed SP Rich Harden for 2 years/12.52 million Angels re-signed SS Erick Aybar for 2 years/4.74 million, avoiding arbitration Blue Jays signed 1B Paul Konerko for 5 years/50.55 million Rangers re-signed 1B Nick Johnson for 3 years/10.98 million November 15: Cardinals have offered SP Cliff Lee 3 years/35.04 million Yankees agree to terms with RP Scott Downs for 3 years/7.97 million Pitching Coach Dong-Uk Baek signs with the Yankees for three years Reds re-signed 1B Joey Votto for 1 year/6.51 million, avoiding arbitration Rangers re-signed C Bengie Molina for 3 years/11.40 million Mariners re-signed 3B Jose Lopez for 2 years/2.86 million, avoiding arbitration White Sox re-signed C A.J. Pierzynski for 2 years/4.88 million November 16: Yankees offer RP Kerry Wood 3 years/14.16 million with mutual option Yankees offer RP Pedro Feliciano 3 years/6.29 million Phillies offered CP Mariano Rivera 1 year/14.53 million Dodgers offered CP Mariano Rivera 1 year/13.36 million Diamondbacks re-signed SS Stephen Drew for 2 years/6.38 million, avoiding arbitration Padres re-signed RF Ryan Ludwick for 1 year/3.45 million, avoiding arbitration White Sox re-signed RP Carlos Villanueva for 1 year/1.02 million, avoiding arbitration Mets re-signed SP Ted Lilly for 3 years/30.39 million Athletics re-signed SP Trevor Cahill for 2 years/3.00 million Athletics re-signed SP Dalls Braden for 1 year/3.16 million, avoiding arbitration Angels re-signed LF Hideki Matsui for 3 years/15.06 million Twins re-signed RP Pat Neshek for 1 year/1.89 million, avoiding arbitration Tigers re-signed Rp Joel Zumaya for 1 year/1.57 million, avoiding arbitration White Sox re-signed SP Gavin Floyd for 2 years/14.52 million, avoiding arbitration Mets signed SP Javier Vazquez for 4 years/58.12 million November 17: Nationals offer SP Cliff Lee 3 years/31.29 million Marlins offer 1B Lance Berkman 4 years/34.04 million Yankees offer 1B Lance Berkman 2 years/10.03 million Marlins signed 1B Lance Berkman 4 years/34.04 million Astros re-signed CP Matt Lindstrom for 2 years/3.72 million, avoiding arbitration Mets re-signed RF Jeff Francoeur for 1 year/2.73 million, avoiding arbitration Mets re-signed RF Angel Pagan for 1 year/1.96 million, avoiding arbitration Rangers re-signed CP Neftali Feliz for 4 years/18.12 million Tigers re-signed LF Ryan Raburn for 1 year/2.13 million, avoiding arbitration White Sox re-signed LF Carlos Quentin to 1 year/2.64 million, avoiding arbitration. -Rumors have it that the Yankees although they liked Lance Berkman very much weren't willing to spend a lot on him. After all they did go through all of the playoffs without Lance Berkman so they feel they can replace him if necessary. Another inside source tells us money was perhaps not the biggest issue they were willing to upper the money but they were not willing to give more than a two year deal, Berkman wanted a longer more secure deal. What we have learned about General Manager Andre: He is not afraid to be aggressive, he will contact multiple agents in one day and make more than one offer. -He's patient and does not mind waiting. -Not afraid to let players go. -This goes with patient, wants to see what's out there before making offers to other players whom have not yet received an offer. -Does not care who the player is, he won't always accommodate to what the players want as shown on the offers to Berkman and Pettitte. -They are interested in bringing Pettitte back even though he had a very bad season and not so good playoffs. November 18: Rafael Soriano has offers from Angels for 5 years/61.70 million and the Brewers for 7 years/82.46 million. GM Andre is not willing to offer more than 4 years to Rafael Soriano. Yankees offer OF Johnny Damon 1 year/3.54 million Braves re-signed CF Melky Cabrera for 1 year/2.22 million, avoiding arbitration Braves re-signed 2B Martin Prado for 1 year/3.11 million, avoiding arbitration Twins re-signed SS J.J. Giants re-signed RP Kevin Cameron to 1 year/1.90 million, avoiding arbitration Dodgers re-signed 1B James Loney for 2 years/6.66 million, avoiding arbitration Cardinals re-signed SS Brendan Ryan for 1 year/2.29 million, avoiding arbitration Tigers re-signed SP Johnny Cueto for 1 year/4.59 million, avoiding arbitration Red Sox sign 1B Derek Lee for 5 years/51.45 million Angels re-signed SP Jered Weaver for 2 years/22.06 million, avoiding arbitration Rays re-signed CF B.J. Re: New York Yankees Franchise(GM:Andre (me))
December 1:
In a very surprising move today the Yankees and C Joe Mauer have agreed to terms. Previously the only offer known to us for Joe Mauer was by Atlanta Braves but it seems like the Yankees sneaking in to get a deal done with the All-Star and 2009 MVP Joe Mauer. The deal is said to be 5 years for 62.03 million. This most likely means that Jorge Posada will become the full time DH while Mauer will catch behind the plate. Giants signed SS Jose Reyes for 2 years/35.20 million Yankees offer SP Phil Hughes 3 years/25.85 million December 3: Yankees offer SP Phil Hughes 3 years/34.05 million December 4 Yankees offer SS Derek Jeter 5 years/88.45 million December 6: SP Joba Chamberlain agrees with a 2 year/4.29 million contract with the Yankees December 9: Cubs signed 3B Scott Rolen for 3 years/22.98 million December 10: Cubs sign RP Frank Francisco for 4 years/10.96 million SS Derek Jeter re-signs with the Yankees for 5 years/88.45 million December 11: Yankees offer OF Andruw Jones 1 year/1.34 million December 12: Yankees offer RP David Robertson 3 years/2.44 million Yankees offer SP Ivan Nova 2 years/1.83 million Yankees offer CF Brett Gardner 3 years/2.52 million Twins sign RP Jason Frasor 2 years/3.64 million December 13: Yankees and SP Andy Pettitte agree to terms for 1 year/2.5 millionDecember 16: Yankees sign RP Kerry Wood for 3 years/14.16 million December 17: Yankees sign RP Pedro Feliciano 3 years/7.31 million Astros sign CP Octavio Dotel for 2 years/10.22 million December 18: Yankees and LF Johnny Damon agreed to a 1 year/3.5 million contract. This most likely means that two of these players will definitely not come back, Denard Span, Marcus Thames, Austin Kearns. Most likely Denard Span who would be wanting to get around 7 million a year. December 19: Rangers signed SP Chris Young for 5 years/37.40 million Nationals signed 1B Jorge Cantu for 3 years/9.36 million Yankees re-sign SP Phil Hughes for 3 years/34.05 million December 20: Red Sox re-sign C Victor Martinez for 2 years/12.86 million Red Sox sign RF Jose Guillen for 4 years/15.96 million December 24: Diamondbacks sign 1B Michael Cuddyer for 3 years/16.17 million Red Sox sign RP Jesse Crain for 2 years/3.02 million December 26: Twins sign 2B Christian Guzman for 2 years/10.46 million December 27: Phillies signed 2B Mark Ellis for 3 years/11.40 million December 28: Yankees re-signed SP Francisco Liriano for 4 years/18.39 million December 31: Mets sign RP Bobby Seay for 4 years/6.60 million January 1: Mets sign RP Grant Balfour for 5 years/9.65 million January 2: Nationals signed 1B David Ortiz 3 years/11.52 million January 9: Giants sign CF Denard Span for 5 years/31.40 million Mets sign 2B Adam Kennedy for 3 years/9.27 million January 10: Mets sign CF Coco Crisp for 4 years/15.88 million Yankees sign RF Andruw Jones for 1 year/1.34 million January 17: White Sox sign 1B Adam LaRoche for 2 years/6.26 million January 18: Yankees sign SS Ramiro Pena 1 year/900 thousand January 19: Tigers sign SS Adam Everett for 2 years/6.04 million January 29: Twins sign LF Marcus Thames for 4 years/5.12 million January 30: Mets sign 2B Akinori Iwamura for 2 years/4.50 million January 31: Astros sign LF Pat Burrell for 3 years/4.20 million February 2: Brewers sign C Josh Bard for 3 years/2.76 million Twins sign RP Alfredo Aceves for 3 years/3.15 million February 5: Astros signed RF Rocco Baldelli for 2 years/1.74 million Cardinals signed 1B Hank Blalock for 3 years/6.69 million Yankees signed 3B Joe Crede for 1 year/500 thousand for minor league Twins signed 3B Mike Lamb for 2 years/1.66 million February 7: Astros signed CF Rink Ankiel for 2 years/1.90 million White Sox signed RF Elijah Dukes for 3 years/3.21 million February 8: Nationals sign SP Jake Westbrook for 3 years/7.65 million February 9: Indians sign 1B Juan Miranda for 2 years/80 thousand Marlins signed RF Gabe Kapler for 2 years/1.59 million Cardinals signed C Carlos Santana for 4 years/13.00 million Orioles signed RF Willie Bloomquist for 2 years/1.10 million Twins signed RP Jon Rauch for 2 years/2.08 million Rangers signed SS Miguel Cairo for 2 years/896 thousand Royals signed SP Jeff Suppan for 2 years/1.05 million Marlins signed LF Garret Anderson for 3 years/2.54 million Astros signed SP Dontrelle Willis for 3 years/5.16 million Blue Jays signed SP Kei Igawa for 2 years/568 thousand Reds signed SP Pedro Martinez for 2 years/6.34 million Cardinals signed RP Joe Nelson for 3 years/3.27 million Marlins signed SP Tim Redding for 3 years/7.56 million Mets signed 1B Mike Jacobs for 2 years/1.87 million February 10: Giants signed LF Corey Patterson for 4 years/900 thousand Diamondbacks signed C Jose Molina for 2 years/720 thousand Rangers signed 3B Eric Chavez for 3 years/1.20 million Athletics signed SP Nate Robertson for 3 years/3.15 million Blue Jays signed 2B Alex Cora for 2 years/832 thousand February 15: Yankees re-sign David Robertson for 3 years/2.44 million

How are the new Yankees?
End of 2010 Payroll:165,422,102
Starting 2011 Payroll:164,517,879 With Payroll drop are Yankees as good as 2010? The Yankees payroll has certainly dropped but does this mean that they are better than last year? Before we speak about the new GM and if they are better or not, let's first take a look at the players they lost this offseason. Players Lost 2010 Offseason: Yankees Notable Offseason Moves: First we will start off by talking about the New York Yankees rotation. Their rotation is almost the same they will have C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Francisco Liriano, Phil Hughes, Andy Pettitte. Last year the Yankees did have Cliff Lee and the games that Andy Pettitte did start he was awful last year. However this time they will have Francisco Liriano from the beginning of the season and they expect that Phil Hughes and Andy Pettitte will have better seasons this year. Overall we would say the rotation is about the same as last year. Now to look at their bullpen, Mariano Rivera is going to be the closer again, last year he had an ERA over 4.00 however his playoff appearances where really good and the Yankees expect a better season out of Mariano Rivera, everyone does for that matter so in the closer department it would be an upgrade. Kerry Wood remains a set up man replacing himself. The Yankees have also added Pedro Feliciano who replaces Boone Logan this year in that department. (Boone Logan is still in the organization, but will be in the minor leagues.) Although Boone Logan did have a good year last year on paper Pedro Feliciano is supposed to be an upgrade over Logan. Joba Chamberlain replaces himself and Ivan Nova is going to be replacing Andy Pettitte when he was a long reliever and we expect this to be somewhat of an upgrade considering the season that Andy Pettitte had last year. David Robertson replaces Jason Frasor in the bullpen and we expect this to be about an even replacement. Scott Downs replaces Jon Rauch and this could end up being an upgrade but if not it will still remain evenly. To conclude we feel as if the Yankees bullpen for this season is stronger. The lineup saw some changes to it but not much. Jeter, Teixeira, A-Rod, Granderson, Swisher, Posada, Cano all remain in the lineup and those are big key players to their success. Joe Mauer is a new addition to the lineup now it's going to be hard to replicate the numbers that Lance Berkman had last year ( he batted over.350, with over 30 home runs, and over 100 RBI's and that's without playing all of September and half of August) however he seems to be a perfect replacement for Lance Berkman. He doesn't have as much power but he is very capable of batting .320 every year. The Yankees have him for the next 5 years and he is only 27 years old right now. They lost Denard Span who was good for them with the bat while Gardner was hurt but they still have Gardner that can take his place. Gardner, Damon, and Jones might battle for the left field position. The Yankees lost Marcus Thames who was very good in terms of power but Andruw Jones might be able to replicate that power as well. And Damon pretty much replaces Austin Kearns in that department it is an upgrade. Ramiro Pena goes back to being their bench infielder, and Francisco Cervelli will remain on the bench even though the Yankees have two catchers in their lineup. Overall we feel that the Yankees are about the same as the previous season which is a very good thing considering that they have lowered their payroll and did get 107 wins last win and went on to win the world series. Weather the GM did a good or bad job is up to you to decide, but keep in mind he could have gone and spent all of his budget, over 221 million, but instead he lowered from last years by about 900 thousand having it at 164 thousand. He first made offers to Rivera and Jeter and then started making offers to relief pitchers. He attempted to get Rafael Soriano but was not willing to offer more than 4 years and therefore he did not get him, but it did not worry him as he knew he would have Ivan Nova in there. New Retirements: Chris Coghlan of Florida Marlins retires due to injury. Luis Castillo of the New York Mets retires due to personal reasons. Jamie Moyer of the Philadelphia Phillies retires. Jim Thome of Chicago Cubs retired. Ryan Roberts of Diamondbacks retires due to injury. Trevor Hoffman of the Brewers retires.
