April 24th, 2012

Once again the Cardinals blew a late lead to end up losing the game, one of many already in this young season. Fernando Salas gave up a 3 run home run after entering the game. That makes two nights in a row the Cardinals blew a lead in the late innings for the loss.

Kyle Lohse went 7.2 innings giving up 4 hits and 3 runs while striking out 9 in another good performance but he picked up the loss. Daniel Descalso had the best game at the plate for the Cardinals going 3-4 and driving in both of the Cardinals runs.

For the Cubs Geovany Soto and Reed Johnson both hit homeruns in the win for the Cubs. Travis Wood went 6.0 innings for the Cubs with 5 hits 1 earned run and 6 strikeouts.

The Cardinals and the Cubs face off one more time tomorrow to close out the series.

Yeah it was not good. I'm not sure on how I feel on the layout. The most recent one I posted I like, but I also like all the others. I don't always have the most time so I'm trying to find the most time efficient one that I like but still provide some information. I like to add a little bit of a story also.

I sure hope so. I can get hits it just stringing them together that is my problem. My pitching staff is doing quite stellar with the exception of late innings. I have blown so many leads. I'm thinking of replacing Motte he already has 3 or 4 blown saves.

St. Louis Cardinals (8-11) @ Chicago Cubs (9-10)

Chicago, IL
April 25th, 2012

The last game of this Cards-Cubs series proved to be an interesting one as it took extra frames to decide a winner and almost included a no hitter.

Jaime Garcia shined on the mound for the St. Louis Cardinals throwing 9.0 innings only giving up one run and striking out 4. Garcia carried a no hitter through 7 innings before giving up a hit to Alfonso Soriano to end his bid at a no hitter.

"If I can get more performances out of him like today then we will win the division," said Cardinals manager Mike Matheny after the game.

Matt Holliday got his first and only hit of the game when he belted a 2 out solo home run to left field in the top of the 11th inning for the only run of the game. Skip Schumaker and Allen Craig also had multi-hit games in the victory.

The Cardinals get a day off before taking on Milwaukee at home with Lance Lynn (0-2, 2.41 ERA) and Chris Narveson (1-1, 3.06 ERA) scheduled to take the mound for each team.

Milwaukee Brewers (12-8) @ St. Louis Cardinals (9-11)
Busch Stadium
St. Louis, MO
April 27th, 2012

After a strong spring training Rafael Furcal has been baffled so far during the regular season. Furcal has not been showing the form he showed during the spring and is hitting below .200. However, last night against the Brewers Furcal showed that he can still get his bat going to compliment his superb defensive play so far. Furcal went 2-3 with a home run and 2 RBIs as he lead the Cardinals offense to a victory.

Pitcher Lance Lynn went 8 innings, giving up 9 hits and 2 runs while striking out 2 and gained the victory after Jason Motte came in the 9th inning and struck out 2 to get the save. Matt Holliday also went 2-4 and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 8th.

For the Brewers Corey Hart hit a solo home run in the 2nd inning which would end up to be his only hit. Rickie Weeks went 2-4 for in the loss. Pitcher Chris Narveson got the start and went 7 innings giving up 5 hits, 2 runs and striking out 3. Marco Estrada would pick up the loss going 0.1 inning, with 2 hits and 1 run.

The Cardinals and Brewers play again tomorrow with Chris Carpenter (3-0, 1.03) taking the hill against Sean Green (0-0, 0.00)
