Indianapolis failed to keep a lead late in the game with the bullpen blowing it in the seventh thanks to a pinch-hit home run and losing the final game to Louisville, 3-2.
No one hit the scoreboard til the fifth inning, with
Gregory Polanco driving in the first run of the game.
Chase d’Arnaud was on second with a one-out double and Polanco ripped a single up the middle, allowing Chase to cross.
In the top of the seventh,
Mel Rojas Jr. pinch-hit to leadoff and reached on a receiving error at first.
Jaff Decker now joined the forces and ripped an double off the left field wall, easily scoring Rojas. 2-0 Indians.
However, the host Bats had bigger plans. With Indy starter
Brandon Cumpton now out of the game after shutting them down for six innings, Louisville took advantage of the streaky Indy bullpen.
With
Duke Welker in to pitch, he allowed a lead off single to Felix Perez only to give up a double to Ray Chang the very next batter, scoring Perez.
Louisville decided to pinch-hit Thomas Neal for starter Carlos Contreras and Neal did more than expected of him.
After Indy got out of the dreadful bottom of the seventh, they were unable to create a comeback.
Cumpton pitched great, going six innings, allowing no runs on only four hits, but his bullpen could not help him out.
