HOMERS SET THE TREND EARLY, AS DODGERS DOWN PADRES

San Diego, CA -- Opening Day turned into an opening nightmare for Padres' starter Ian Kennedy, as the winless Dodgers showed up to PETCO Park wielding their power bats. The Dodgers managed four homeruns, as in the end before a ruckus San Diego crowd, they bested the Padres, 7-4.

Ian Kennedy (0-1, 15.75 ERA), who is looking to turn around his talented, yet injury-plagued career, didn't look comfortable in his first started. He ended the night early in the fourth inning, surrendering seven runs on eight hits, four of them being long balls, while giving up two walks.

"I kept leaving pitches up and they took advantage." said Kennedy about his performance.

His opposition, Dodgers' starter Hyun-Jin Ryu (1-0, 2.53 ERA), didn't look to be phased. He pitched eight solid innings, giving up three runs and fanning six. It showed also as Ryu never gave a free pass during tonight's clash.

Runs came early for both teams, as they each scored one run in the first. One of those first-inning runs was a homer from Andre Ethier, but that was just the tip of the iceberg. Former Padre Adrian Gonzalez, Matt Kemp, and Hanley Ramirez, would each clear the bases in the following innings. By the 5th inning, Bud Black has seen enough and pulled Kennedy out.

"Its early in the season, pitchers are still adjusting, as are the batters. But the bullpen looked good today." remarked manager Bud Black.

Indeed, it did. Once the bullpen received the ball, the Dodgers never came across home plate again. That opened the door for a Friar's rally, but it never showed. Everth Cabrera, was a bright spot in the lineup, hitting three doubles in four at-bats, and scoring twice. Jedd Gyorko managed to hit a solo shot in the night, giving the Padres four runs.

Game 2 of this three-game series resumes the day after tomorrow, as San Diego's Andrew Cashner makes his first start of the young season against the Dodger's Josh Beckett. First pitch happens at 7, so be sure to be in your seats ready to cheer for your San Diego Padres!

Forgot to mention in the Opening Day report, Carlos Quentin is out 2-3 weeks with a head contusion. Ball hit him at the left field wall and he almost Jose Canseco'ed it.

DODGERS POWER PAST PADRES, 9-2

San Diego -- In game two of the three-game series, Los Angeles' bats proved to be too much for the Padres' pitching, as the Dodgers took their second-straight at PETCO Park this evening. Josh Beckett turned back the clock, pitching eight innings, allowing two runs on five hits, fanning six, and giving a free pass to one. At one point, he sat down thirteen-straight Padres batters.

The Dodgers bats scored a run early off of San Diego starter Andrew Cashner in the first inning. After a scoreless second inning, the Padres looked a bit lively, scoring two runs off of a Chase Headley double. It was his first double of the season. The top of the fourth inning is when things began to sour for the home team.

After Josh Beckett gave himself an advantage by singling in a run, leadoff-hitter Hanley Ramirez came to the plate with the bases loaded. Ramirez must have been sitting on a fastball, because once Andrew Cashner's 2-1 came running into the plate, Ramirez in-turn, sent it scoring into the left field bleachers and clearing the bases. The bleeding wouldn't stop there as Matt Kemp would later homer off of Cashner in the inning, making it seven runs in the fourth.

"If we plan on winning ballgames, we can't be letting innings get out of hand, like we did today." remarked Padres manager Bud Black.

Andrew Cashner's control didn't help any either. He only lasted three and a thirds inning, giving up seven runs on six hits, three of them them being home runs. He also managed to walk four batters.

"I just didn't have my control today. I've got to rebound in my next outing." said Cashner on his performance.

San Diego's chances aren't going to get better with injuries either. After Carlos Quentin went down on Opening Day with a head contusion. To makes matter worst, Everth Cabrera had to be taken out in the fourth, after attempting a diving-stop on a grounder. He is expected to be out three to four weeks with an inflamed hip. Alexi Amarista filled in at shortstop.

The final game of the series starts tomorrow, as San Diego's Josh Johnson looks to turn the tide and put in a good performance for the Padres. Opposing him with be the Dodgers' Dan Haren, who makes his first start of the season. Hopefully everything can fall into place for our Padres as they look to win the rubber match tomorrow. Make sure to get to your seats, because baseball is DOWNTOWN in San Diego!

Re: 'Santa Maria!': San Diego Padres Franchise [MLB 14: The Show]

Need some feedback, gents. I used some different graphics compared to what I usually do and wanted some opinions? If there is anything I can try and add also, let me know. For some reason I forgot to screenshot something from the game, I'll make sure to do so next time.

I'll be sure to add more box score numbers from the images also. Like pitching, haha!

Also on my screen, some of the images look cutoff, I'm gonna be sure to resize them for the next posting. But besides that I think it looks good. Let me know what you guys think.

CB, Really glad you're doing this..It will be a test...
First suggestion more Power hitting..
Trade Hundley to Atl.for Evan Gattis( yeah I know not likely..do it anyway. )
As soon as he's off the DL...Trade Quinton back to an AL team he's a DH at best.
I like the page set up easy to read...keep at it.
