TheNumber35 Plays 162: A Colorado Rockies Dynasty (The Show 13)

After my last dynasty file became corrupt, I became sad. So I decided to start up another one, but this one is going to be much different than the last ones I've had. This file will be my attempt to play all 162+ (hopefully more) games in the 2013 season with the Colorado Rockies. I selected the Rockies because they are a very intriguing team, I don't know a ton about them, and I think they should be very fun to play an entire season as with Tulo and CarGo.

Now I will recap games here, possibly in an article format...I haven't decided exactly on the format yet but I will be doing this thing to keep you guys entertained so please tell me if there's something you think would be a good addition.

SETTINGS:

Games: 162
Difficulty: AS Hitting, HoF Pitching, AS Fielding
Controls: Analog Hitting, Analog Pitching, Analog Fielding
Sliders: TNK's Realism Set
30 Team Control is on

Team: Colorado Rockies

Welcome to the 162+, non sim club!

Just as a suggestion, as I've learned from seeing this happen numerous times on here, make TWO saved game files just in case.

Best of luck!!

Re: TheNumber35 Plays 162: A Colorado Rockies Dynasty (The Show 13)

Rockies Announce MLB Roster after Spring Comes to a Close

DENVER, CO-- The Colorado Rockies look to begin their trek towards the Postseason in what appears to be an uphill battle with the Giants and Dodgers and even the D-Backs all appearing to be in front of the Rockies as the season begins. Rockies fans and the team seem to think otherwise with a team that looks to be a very dominant offensive unit. And while that may be true, the problem everyone has isn't with the offense. It's that pitching staff that could be one of the worst in all of baseball once again. Led by Jhoulys Chacin and Jorge De La Rosa, this staff may see some improvement over last season...granted that wouldn't be that hard to do considering the overall performance of Rockie pitchers could be described as lackluster, to say the least.

Chacin appears to have the inside track to make the start on Opening Day against the Brewers at Miller Park but don't pay much attention to that. While Chacin in a good pitcher, he is most certainly not an ace on most MLB ball clubs (Astros and Marlins excluded.) This Rockies team will have to slug their way into the playoffs if they want to get there this season and considering the firepower they have returning, that shouldn't be an issue. Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez lead the charge for the Rockies on offense and they form one of the more potent 3-4 duos in all of baseball. Michael Cuddyer and Tyler Colvin form a pretty solid platoon in right field with the bats, Dexter Fowler is emerging as one of the better young center fielders in all of baseball, Wilin Rosario can hit dingers with the best of them, Helton can still hit for some average, and Nelson/Rutledge are both solid players who will find ways to contribute with their bats in this dangerous lineup. And the bench has speed in Eric Young Jr., plus a very good hitter in Jordan Pacheco who should see consistent ABs against left-handed pitching this season.

The bullpen could be one of the weaker parts of this team outside of the backend. We all know Brothers and Betancourt will bring it, we all know those two guys can get it done on a consistent basis. As for everyone else...time will tell. Belisle is a good piece but has shown his inconsistencies, Lopez came from Houston which automatically makes him questionable, hell Francis and Garland made the squad as bullpen arms; that should tell you everything you need to know about this pen.

Everything considered, I think the Rockies are a solid 80-85 win team...sadly I doubt this makes them a playoff team considering how loaded the NL seems to be this season. Looks like another year where Rockies fans won't be singing Rocky Mountain High. The roster is shown below for those who wish to see it and be sure to catch the Rockies first game of the season tomorrow against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park, it pits Jhoulys Chacin (0-0) against Yovani Gallardo (0-0).

MILWAUKEE, WI-- Opening Day! It's up there as one of the best days of the year, personally its my favorite day (outside of my own birthday of course) and the Rockies got off to a great start with Tyler Colvin's 10th inning homer to propel them past the Brewers 4-2. Jhoulys Chacin pitched today for the Rockies and appeared to have something to prove with 7 solid innings of work against a very dangerous Brewers lineup. Chacin pitched 7 innings of shutout baseball allowing a meager 4 baserunners (3 hits and a walk) while striking out 6 batters. Yovani Gallardo countered Chacin pitch for pitch, outside of a couple mistakes here or there, as he ended up throwing 6 innings of 2 run baseball on 5 hits. The two runs both came on groundouts by Rockie players with runners on 3rd base, the first run of the game came in the third inning as Josh Rutledge led off the inning with a double and was bunted to third by Chacin. Fowler proceeded to ground out to Hart and plate the first runner. The next run was scored by a Chris Nelson single, followed by a wild pitch moving Nelson up to 2nd base, followed by a groundball to first to advance the runner and finally followed by a grounder to Weeks at 2nd to score Nelson.

Rex Brothers gave life to the Brewers by serving up a homer to Aramis Ramirez in the 8th inning, his first of the season. And the game was extended to extra innings by Rafael Betancourt blowing the save in the 9th due to a Jonathan Lucroy double that plated Corey Hart. Cue Colvin in the top of the 10th, Tyler had been intentionally walked in his previous 2 ABs after smoking a double down the line in his 2nd AB of the day. After a leadoff single to CarGo (3-5 on the day) and a Tulo deep flyout, in stepped Colvin. But with Carlos Gonzalez standing on 1st base there was no sign to walk Colvin. Jim Henderson got ahead in the count with two curveballs on the corners, surely he wouldn't throw another 0-2. But sure enough he did, and he hung it, and Tyler didn't miss it, he drove the ball to straight away center field and gave the Rockies the 4-2 lead. Colvin went 2-3 on the day with the homer, 2 RBI, and a pair of walks. After regaining the lead, the Rockies wouldn't relinquish it as Matt Belisle got Rickie Weeks to strike out for the 4th time in the game to finish off the Brewers.

This win probably won't mean much in the scope of the 2013 season, but it is a beautiful way to start things off for Colorado who plays Milwaukee again tomorrow night at 7:10 with Jorge De La Rosa facing newly acquired Kyle Lohse in what appears to be another evenly matched game between the teams.

Re: TheNumber35 Plays 162: A Colorado Rockies Dynasty (The Show 13)

Brewers Flex Muscles in Thrashing of Rockies

Boxscore Here:
Spoiler

MILWAUKEE, WI-- Ouch. Let's just let this one soak in for a second because after yesterday's excellent pitching performance, this one hurts. Jorge De La Rosa (0-1) pitched very well through the first 4 innings, allowing only Aramis Ramirez to touch him up with a solo homer in the 4th inning. But the 5th inning was a completely different story as De La Rosa couldn't escape the inning as the Brewers figured him out. They tallied 4 runs in the fourth, and really never looked back as they continued to hit with a pair of homers off the Rockie bullpen. And their own bullpen locked up the Rockies until the game was out of reach.

The Rockies offense got off to a strong start hitting Kyle Lohse all over the ball park. Troy Tulowitzki got things going for the Rockies with a 2 run dinger in the top of the 1st inning off Lohse. Then Wilin Rosario hit a ringing single to drive in Tyler Colvin (who had another excellent game, going 3-4 with a pair of doubles) to make it a 3-1 ball game when Lohse departed after 4.2 innings after allowing 11 hits and 3 runs. Sadly the Rockies wouldn't score again until the top of the 9th inning when CarGo would reach on an error and allow Michael Cuddyer to score.

What does all this mean for the Rockies? Nothing. Simply put, this is the kind of hot and cold pitching we were expecting to see from Colorado and hopefully tomorrow will see things go better for the offense who went 3-14 with RISP today after hitting very well in those situations yesterday.

MILWAUKEE, WI-- Oh Aramis...why do you have to be killing the baseball to start off this season? Couldn't you have waited three days to get hot? Why did you have to take it out on the Rockies. As you may have guessed, Aramis Ramirez hit a walkoff homer in the bottom of the 15th inning off Matt Belisle to send home the Brewers victorious. Milwaukee (2-1) wins the first series of the season behind strong offensive efficiency and bullpen dominance against the Rockies. Mark Rogers started for the Brewers and pitched 7 dominating innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits. The only Brewers pitcher to have any struggles today other than Rogers was John Axford who blew the save with 2 outs in the 9th inning. Only 2 of the 4 runs were actually driven in for Milwaukee today, one by Ramirez's homer and the other by Braun in the first inning.

Colorado (1-2) pitched pretty well today up until the bullpen got a hold of things as Juan Nicasio punched out 9 batters in 6 innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) but his teammates let him down. Obviously Matt Belisle gave up the game winning homer, but Wilton Lopez gave up a run in the 8th inning as well that would have cost the Rockies the game had Wilin Rosario not brought his hero cap to the park today. Rosario was definitely the Rockies MVP with his 2 HR performance in today's ballgame. Colorado got their scoring started with Tulowitzki hitting his second jack of the young season, then Rosario came on. Hitting homers in back-to-back at bats to take a lead and to tie the game. Rosario's power surge early on is a positive sign considering the way the Rockies have been scoring in this first series of the season. The Rockies' offense has been boom or bust thus far this season scoring 7 of their 11 runs via the longball. A strategy that won't be a good way to sustain success throughout the 162 game season, but if they can't hold leads the amount of runs they score won't matter.

Colorado heads home to play the home opener against the San Diego Padres. Christian Friedrich will face an unannounced Padres starter. San Diego played a 21 inning marathon today and used the scheduled starter in relief for 4 innings. So we'll see who the Pads elect to send to the hill against our Rockies.
