Tigers announce Opening Day assignments Sunday, April 5, 2015 The Detroit Tigers have announced its Opening Day 25 man roster. It is below. Opening Day is right around the corner, literally!!!!!! Some notable exclusions are RP Joba Chamberlain and Alex Wilson who will both start the year in AAA with the Toledo Mud Hens. Utility man Andrew Romine, CF Daniel Fields and IF/DH Mike Hessman all were sent to the Mud Hens as well. When asked about the decisions at a press conference Sunday, Manager Brad Ausmus said, "we poured over thousands of hours of data and watched hours of film on each player. Who we start the year with is who we feel we are best suited to win with right now but it doesn't mean that if a guy gets sent down that he won't be called upon during the year to help this ballclub win." Re: 2015 Detroit Tigers and beyond

Tigers make mistakes, lose Opener in extras to Twins 4-3 April 6, 2015 (Detroit, MI) The Minnesota Twins stole a victory in typical Twins style against the Detroit Tigers on Opening Day 2015 at Comerica Park in Detroit. The Twins got timely hitting, good defense and solid pitching en route to a 4-3 victory in 13 innings against the Tigers. RP Blaine Boyer was the unsung hero for the Twins, picking up his first victory of the year after pitching 4 strong innings. Tiger batters were striking out in the masses today, notching 15, 5 of those coming from the arm of Boyer. The Twins sealed the deal in the top of the 13th when veteran RF Torii Hunter hit a sacrifice fly off of lefty Tiger RP Blaine Hardy to score Joe Mauer. Both teams starters, Anibal Sanchez and Phil Hughes were good but not great. Hughes went 6 2/3 while striking out 8, but gave up 10 hits. Sanchez was chased relatively early, only registering 5 innings pitched while giving up 5 hits and walking 3. His command was not there today, maybe nerves had the best of him. Both pitchers earned a no decision. At the plate, the Tigers hit into 4 double-plays. Very frustrating for fans, coaches and the players. DH Victor Martinez hit into two, and on most days we know he isn't a threat to even come close to making it a play at first base. Much of this is attribute to Boyer's pitching. He was absolutely outstanding today. At the plate, CF Anthony Gose was 3-6 from the leadoff spot for the Tigers. Every Tiger batter had a hit which is a feat in itself. 1B Miguel Cabrera and 2B Ian Kinsler both hit their first triples of the year. C Alex Avila hit a game tying double for the Tigers in the eight inning. 2015 Tigers Game 1 recap.jpg From L-R: The Twins turn 2. Yoenis Cespedes misplays the ball. Alex Avila hits the GW tying double. Joe Mauer scores the GW win on Torii Hunter's sac fly in the 13th. The Minnesota Twins saw C Josmil Pinto go 2-4 and former Tiger RF Torii Hunter go 1-5 with a triple and the GW sacrifice fly. He also collected 2 RBI on the day. Left fielder for the Twins, Oswaldo Arcia walked 3 times in the game, he had a keen eye as some would say. When asked about his teams performance on Opening Day, Brad Ausmus gave some insight into what he was thinking. "I mean anytime you fricken hit into 4 fricken double-plays, you're never going to win. Anyway, it was a hard fought game, like every game will be this year. We didn't play bad, we just were beat." It is the first game of the year, a long way to go. The Detroit Tigers will pick themselves off after a day off and get right back into. "I don't want a day off, I want to play right now if I could," said Ausmus. The Tigers will be back in action Wednesday against the Twins. David Price (0-0, 0.00) will be facing off against Ervin Santana (0-0, 0.00) for the Twins. In other AL Central action, The Kansas City Royals (1-0) beat the Chicago White Sox (0-1) 4-3. The Cleveland Indians (0-1) lost to the Houston Astros on the road 5-4 in 10 innings. PLAYER OF THE GAME: Blaine Boyer, Minnesota Twins. 4 innings pitched in relief, a W and 5 K's.

The now 2-1 SeaWolves hitters gave their starter Warwick Saupold plenty of run support early in game 3 of this 4 game series but it was Jeff Ferrell again coming to the rescue for his team. Ferrell pitched his team to victory with another show of dominance in the reliever role. Ferrell notched his 2nd win of the very young year. Zach Nuding for the Thunder only lasted 4 2/3 innings, giving up 8 runs on 9 hits. SeaWolves 3B Brendan Harris hit his first homer of the year, while Javier Betancourt, Derek Hill and Grayson Greiner all provided extra pop to secure the win for the SeaWolves. CP Melvin Mercedes came in and slammed the door, picking up his 2nd save of the year. Sunday's rubber-matchup will feature Josh Turley (0-0, 0.00) versus Caleb Smith (0-0, 0.00) of the Thunder.
