September 1880 /1880 Regular Season Recap

News / Trades
- Chicago won 11 games in a row from August 26th until September 14th, and 24 of their last 26 games to finish 59-25 (.702) in the regular season, easily the highest winning percentage of any team in league history.

- 'Long' Levi Meyerle suffered a herniated disc on September 16 and missed the rest of the season. He hit .324 with a home run and 34 RBI for the Bisons this season.

- Pete Evans broke Larry Corcoran's record for wins in a season on September 16 by winning his 28th game of the year. Eventually Corcoran also caught up to Evans with 28 wins this year, so they now share the record.

- 'Big' Dan Brouthers broke Jim Casey's record for home runs in a season by slugging his 7th of the year on September 22. Brouthers hit .312 with 49 RBI for Providence this year, and is currently the career leader in home runs.

- Providence clinched the wild card on September 25 over Boston and return to the NL Championship for the third time in four years. Chicago is making their fifth appearance in six years and will be looking to clinch their third championship.

- Pete Brooks, Chicago's left fielder, had a 22 game hit streak ended on September 27 against Cleveland. Brooks hit .366 in the regular season with 19 RBI.
