It would have been nice to pick up an additional win against the Mets - but tough to look to far into that at this point with a big road trip coming up. I would be looking at picking up 7 or 8 victories - Pittsburgh is struggling right now and the Marlins are just bad.

True and the Pirates just unloaded Harrison to our rivals.

The ageless Albert Pujols did some damage against the DBacks.

Solid split of the short series with the Angels - nice to have a full travel day before playing back east for the next 8.

TRADE NEWS

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Boston Red Sox made a trade on Friday evening. The DBacks sent speedy centerfielder Jarrod Dyson to the Red Sox in exchange for reliever Tyler Thornburg and a couple of minor league pitching prospects, Mike Shawaryn and Bryan Mata. Dyson, acquired this past offseason from the Mariners has struggled in the National League, hitting just .151 with no home runs and just six RBIs in 43 games. He did have 14 stolen bases, which was second on the DBacks and a major reason why the Red Sox obtained him.

Tyler Thornburg is a strikeout threat that the DBacks wanted to add to their bullpen as the calendar turns towards July. The right-hander was (3-3) with a 4.07 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 42.0 innings and 32 appearances for the Red Sox. He struck out 52 and walked 17. HE will likely assume a role near the back end of the DBacks bullpen as a 7th and 8th inning setup guy.

Mike Shawaryn, a 23-year-old is 6'2" and 200 lbs and features three pitches, a four-seam fastball, slider and change up. He will be assigned to Triple-A Reno.

Bryan Mata is a 19-year-old righty from Venezuela. The 6'3", 167 lb starter features a four-seamer, curveball and change up. He will be assigned to Double-A Jackson.

The Diamondbacks made a couple of roster moves also. Reliever T.J. McFarland was optioned to Triple-A Reno and Chris Owings was recalled from Triple-A Reno.

June 21-24: ARIZONA (47-30) @ PITTSBURGH (36-42)

June 21: Arizona 7, Pittsburgh 1
June 22: Pittsburgh 4, Arizona 2
June 23: Pittsburgh 3, Arizona 1
June 24: Arizona 5, Pittsburgh 1

The DBacks opened a four game weekend series in Pittsburgh with an easy 7-1 victory over the Bucs. Arizona pounded out 13 hits in the win, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Jake Lamb hit a two-run shot in the first, his 16th on the year. A.J. Pollock went 2 for 3 with a triple, two runs scored and three more stolen bases.

Pitcher Zack Godley (7-1) came up one out short of a complete game, tossing 8 2/3 innings and allowing just the one run on seven hits. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter.

Pittsburgh bounced back in game two, getting some late insurance runs to hold on for a 4-2 victory. Jameson Taillon (8-5) was on his game, going six innings and allowing just one run on four hits. He struck out five and did not issue a walk.

Arizona jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to an RBI single from A.J. Pollock. The Pirates got that back in the bottom half thanks to a Josh Bell RBI groundout following an error on a dropped fly ball by David Peralta in left field. Adam Frazier hit a solo home run to right off of Taijuan Walker in the fourth, and the Pirates added two big insurance runs in the seventh as reliever Yoshi Hirano allowed both inherited runners to score.

David Peralta would add an RBI double in the top of the eighth to pull the DBacks back to within two, but reliever George Kontos was able to get Paul Goldschmidt and Jake Lamb to both fly out to end the threat. Felipe Rivero then worked the ninth to pick up his 18th save.

Trevor Williams stifled the DBacks bats on a rainy Saturday afternoon at P&C Park as the Prates scored three first inning runs and won 3-1. Williams (5-4) went 8 1/3 innings, allowing just one run on five hits. He struck out two and walked one.

The Pirates got to Zack Greinke in the first inning. Adam Frazier lined an RBI single and Josh Bell followed him with a two-run home run to right.

Arizona's lone run came on an absolute moon shot from A.J. Pollock in the ninth. He hit a ball 455 feet deep into the left field seats. Zack Greinke (8-2) lost for just the second time in 2018. He allowed three runs on 10 hits in seven innings of work. He struck out seven and walked one. It was the second straight start that he has allowed 10 hits.

The Diamondbacks salvaged the finale 5-1 over the Pirates behind a strong pitching performance from Patrick Corbin. He tossed eight innings, allowing one run on just three hits on just 78 pitches. He struck out six and walked none. The DBacks grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second as Ildemaro Vargas hit a two run home run to right off of Ivan Nova. It was the first home run of his career. A Paul Goldschmidt RBI double and Steven Souza Jr RBI single added two more runs in the third.

Steve Souza Jr returned to the lineup on Sunday and went 3 for 4 with a double and RBI. Tyler Thornburg made his Diamondback debut on Sunday afternoon, pitching the ninth inning in a non-save situation.

Arizona (47-30) is now (3-3) on the road trip as they head to Miami to conclude the trip with four games against the lowly Marlins (28-50).

Solid split - would have liked to see you take 3 - but maybe you can get a sweep over the Marlins to end the trip 7-3. I was also shocked to see Greinke didn’t pick up the win.

Surprising that Dyson was hitting that badly -- he was a pretty sure bet when he was with KC to hit .250-.270. That's a great haul for an OF on the wrong side of 30, though.
