The Blue Jays look to bounce back from a Friday night loss at the hands of the Orioles as they look to pad their lead over the Yankees in the American League East. Julio Teheran (6-5, 3.33 ERA) gets the start for the Blue Jays after picking up his first win of the second half last time out against the Yankees. Yefry Ramirez (0-7, 7.22 ERA) continues to look for his first win of the season after a horrific first half of the regular season.

Luke Maile will slide into the lineup to give regular catcher Danny Jansen a day off after a long night game the day before.

Blue Jays Option Drury, Activate Gurriel Jr. from IL

The Toronto Blue Jays have announced that they have activated infielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. from the injured list and have optioned infielder Brandon Drury to Triple-A Buffalo.

Since being recalled from Triple-A, Drury has hit to the tune of a .264 average with two hoemrs and 3 doubles in 72 at bats. While he provided replacement level offense with good defensive versatility, the Blue Jays will welcome back Lourdes Gurriel Jr. who was off to a rough start to the season through 36 games before landing on the injured list.

The 26 year old Cuban infielder hit a mediocre .248 with 3 doubles and two home runs to go along with 16 RBIs. After posting a .246/.321/.413 slash line over 146 games in the 2019 season, the versatile infielder is looking to bring his offensive game to the next level in 2020.

Re: Canada's Team | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Deadline Splash: Blue Jays Acquire Hader From Brewers

The Toronto Blue Jays have announced their first block buster acquisition of the 2020 trade deadline, acquiring star reliever Josh Hader and infield prospect Francisco Thomas from the Milwaukee Brewers.

Just a week after acquiring A.J. Minter from the Braves, the Blue Jays have acquired another bullpen weapon as they try to fend off the New York Yankees for the rest of the season. Hader, 25, comes with three years of arbitration control through 2023 and has pitched to a 2.40 ERA with 52 strikeouts through 41.1 innings of work out of the back end of the Milwaukee bullpen this season.

Thomas, a switch hitting infielder from Puerto Rico, is a shortstop by nature and has been seeing action at the Triple-A level for the Brewers organization so far this season. Thomas has laid waste to Triple-A pitching this season, hitting .331 with 9 home runs and 46 RBIs through 242 at bats with Triple-A San Antonio.

Going to the Brewers is outfielders Teoscar Hernandez and Luis Angel as well as highly-touted infield prospect Orelvis Martinez. With the offseason acquisition of George Springer paying extraordinary dividends for the Blue Jays, Hernandez saw his playing time reduced to a backup role and was ultimately deemed expendable by the Blue Jays brass. The 27 year old has only appeared in 72 games for the Blue Jays this season, putting together a .250/.317/.385 line with six homers and 26 RBI.

Martinez, 21, has been playing at the Double-A level this season and has appeared in two games for the Blue Jays back in 2017, albeit with nothing to show for after going 0-for-4. Meanwhile, Angel has been playing at Single-A Dunedin, where he has been graded as a “B+ prospect” by multiple scouts after being drafted by the Blue Jays in the early rounds last year.

Re: Canada's Team | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Blue Jays Recall Drury, Option Chafin

After acquiring Josh Hader from the Milwaukee Brewers, the Blue Jays have announced a minor roster shuffle. The team has announced that they have recalled utilityman Brandon Drury from Triple-A Buffalo and optioned reliever Andrew Chafin to Triple-A Buffalo.

With outfielder Teoscar Hernandez on the move to Milwaukee, the Blue Jays needed another bat off the bench. With Drury able to play multiple infield positions and both corner outfield positions, he was deemed the perfect fit after putting up a .264 average through his first taste of big league action this season.

Chafin, acquired at the trade deadline last season by the Blue Jays, has been a disappointment to the bullpen ever since, posting a 4.13 ERA in 28.1 innings of work while being used mainly as a lefty specialist. With Hader being of the southpaw variety and his ability to get batters of both hands out, the need for Chafin no longer existed for Charlie Montoya. Chafin will look to get back on track in Triple-A Buffalo, and expect to see him back with the club when rosters expand in September.
