Just been reading through the last few pages here. Incredible run you're on this season again. Couple of very nice wins over some good Big East schools. Was actually talking to Rutgers alum Kelvin Troy at a camp last week. One of their best defenders ever. He's been living in Ireland last 20 plus years, still as intense as ever!

West Virginia has typically dominated the rival Pittsburgh Panthers during head coach James Frizzell's tenure in Morgantown. The Mountaineers have won over 10 games in a row against the Panthers and haven't lost in years, but that all came to a screeching halt tonight in Pittsburgh as the unranked Pitt Panthers (9-2, 2-1) knocked the No. 1 team in the land off their haughty perch by a final score of 76-72.
West Virginia (14-1, 1-1) saw their hopes of an undefeated season dashed once again as they were unable to top their rivals, a short 75-minute drive up Interstate 79. Nik Buscher put forward a phenomenal effort with 25 points, seven rebounds, and four blocks for West Virginia, but he got little help. The only other double-digit scorers for the Mountaineers were Boakai Clement and Felipe Delgado, who each scored 11 points. Delgado also added seven boards and four assists.
The Panthers led 35-32 at halftime and led from wire-to-wire in the second half, though their lead was almost always in single-digits. The Mountaineers got close near the end of the game, but the Panthers sank their free throws to seal the huge victory.
The Panthers were dominant from the free throw line, shooting 28/31 (90%). West Virginia, meanwhile, only made it to the line 11 times, making nine of their attempts (82%).
The Panthers lived off a balanced attack this evening which saw five players score in double-figures and seven players score at least eight points. Neal Gomes and Allan Bitee led the way with 13 points apiece, and Gomes added four steals. Sophomore center Joey Owen just missed out on a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Senior power forward Jeffrey Halsch added 10 points and six boards and senior guard Leland Buscher came off the bench to score 10 points, as well.
"This one hurts," said West Virginia head coach James Frizzell. "Obviously, we had hopes for an undefeated season, which is something we've never done for before. Still, we'll regroup and get things back on track. Our main goal is still the conference crown and the national title, and maybe this loss will give us better perspective. We've come close to losing a few times already, so this was a long time coming. It's just too bad it had to come to [Pittsburgh]."
West Virginia will look to get back on track on Saturday against No. 14 Providence in Rhode Island. The Friars are 12-1 this season and have won four consecutive games dating back to a slim 81-78 loss against Colorado back on December 15th, their only loss thus far this season..

Nik Buscher made one of two free throws with 2.2 seconds left to push No. 1 West Virginia (15-1, 2-1) past No. 14 Providence (13-2, 2-1) this evening in Providence, RI, handing the Friars their first loss in Big East Conference play and preventing the Mountaineers from sustaining a two-game losing streak.
Buscher, who totaled 19 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks, leading the Mountaineers in each category, was fouled as he attempted a turnaround post move in the waning seconds with the game tied at 65. He missed the first free throw, but the 80% free throw shooter on the season made his second and the Friars' ensuing half-court attempt did not find the bottom of the net as the Mountaineers won by just one point, 66-65.
Boakai Clement scored 12 points for West Virginia and freshman Stefon Hull came off the bench to hit three three-pointers and score a career-high 11 points.
Junior guard Josko Dawn led Providence in scoring with 19 points. Senior point guard Shamell Fitch added 14 points and six assists and Shantay Ingram banged down low for 12 points and eight rebounds.
"This was a tough one to win, and our boys did a good job at going out and winning this one against a really good team," said West Virginia head coach James Frizzell. "We struggled to score in this one and we found ourselves down several times down the stretch, but to gut it out at the win is something to be proud of."
The game was back-and-forth in the second half, but the Friars led by as many as seven points late in the game before the Mountaineers made a run late to tie it.
