Kerr hits game winner in Bulls win over Shaq-less Magic

CHICAGO -- Michael Jordan has built his reputation(and career) on his ability come through win game shots.

With the game tied and and just 7.8 seconds left in the game, the Orlando Magic knew who the Bulls wanted to take the last shot.

As Jordan received the inbounds pass the Magic sent a double team his way preventing Jordan from getting a shot for himself. However, MJ was able to find Steve Kerr open on the wing.

Penny Hardaway was a step slow on the defensive rotation and Kerr knocked down jumper from just inside the arc to put Chicago ahead 105-103.

With no timeouts remaining the Magic were forced to take a desperation heave that was off target giving the Bulls the narrow win.

"When I saw them double Michael, I knew he would find me if I was open," Kerr said. "I just had to get the ball off in time, and make the shot."

The win gives a Bulls a small sense of payback after Orlando defeated them in last season's Eastern Conference Finals, even if Shaq wasn't on the floor.

Orlando's franchise center-piece is recovering from surgery to repair an injured thumb on the big man's right hand.

Lacking an inside presence, the Magic relied on three-point shooting for their offense. Dennis Scott hit seven of 11 three pointers on his way to a game high 36 points.

Penny struggled with his shot in the first half leading to a 10-29 shooting performance. He finished the game with 28 points, 10 assists, and 5 rebounds.

"A heartbreaking loss," Hardaway said. "We could've used this win on our resume, but we see a couple more times. We showed them all that we had."

Jordan scored 34 points, but it was the all-around performance of Scottie Pippen that was key to the Bulls win.

Scottie scored 28 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and hit two late free-throws that tied the score 103-103.

After Pippen tied the game, Orlando had a chance to take the lead but former Bull Horace Grant missed a turn-around jumper allowing Kerr's shot to be a game winner.

Things won't be any easier in the Bull's next game as the Seattle SuperSonics and their All-Star duo of Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp visit the United Center.

Pippen's big 2nd half keys Bulls comeback against Sonics

CHICAGO -- An off-night for Scottie Pippen at the offensive end turned into an on-night in a hurry.

Pippen scored 29 of his 36 points in the second half, and the short-handed Chicago Bulls rallied for a 105-97 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics on Thursday night.

"Once he got hot, we really focused on riding that energy that he had," Bulls coach Phil Jackson said.

The Bulls offense sputtered out of the gate and they trailed Seattle 49-38 at the half, but Chicago came out of the locker room a different team as they outscored the Sonics 67-46 during the final two quarters.

It wasn't just Pippen who lifted the Bulls to the come back win, Michael Jordan added a typical 31 points and Steve Kerr came off the bench to hit two back to back three's that started a third quarter run.

The loss drops the Sonics record to 2-3 early in the season. Gary Payton messed around and nearly got a triple-double with 28 points, 9 assists, and 8 rebounds.

Chicago brought in Dennis Rodman to handle rebounding duties, but the Bulls without his services while the forward recovers from pulled calf muscle. Dickey Simpkins got the start in Rodman's place and did a decent job scoring 6 points and grabbing 6 rebounds.

Chicago now has back-to-back wins over two of the top teams in the league this season(Orlando and Seattle) and hope to keep the streak going against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday.
