Player of the Game: Peter Boehm - 26 pts, 4 reb, 2 ast
COLUMBUS, OH - Today was the beginning of the season for Ohio State. They did fairly well last season by making the NCAA Tournament as a #5 seed but saw an early exit in the second round when they lost to Butler. They look to come back and do better than last year. They start the season against a very tough Harvard Crimson squad who gave Kentucky a run for their money in the tournament last year. The game got off moving quickly. Ohio State started to control the floor and the paint. A quick switch in the Harvard lineup helped to step it up down low. Ivy and Wright were working well down low to pull down rebounds and make easy shots. Ohio State would have had the lead going into halftime if it weren't for the buzzer-beater by Boehm. He was able to tie the game at 32 just before the half. The second half look like the second half from the Harvard-Kentucky game. The Crimson let Ohio State get a quick run to open the half and create a 9 point lead. Coach Holt decided it was time to switch out Swiatek for Ivy again. This helped slow down the bleeding but didn't stop it. The rest of the half the Crimson did not tie or take the lead. Ohio State was able to run the floor on both offense and defense. Free throws were the name of the game for Harvard. The huge Ohio State crowd got to the Crimson when they were at the line. They missed all of their free throws in the first half (8) and managed to make a few in the second half, but it was too little too late.
Here is what Coach Holt had to say, "[Cameron] Ivy is a beast. He didn't miss a shot and was able to pull down 5 rebounds against a guy who was dominating the paint and boards. We're going to keep the lineup we currently have, but we are still keeping an open mind about making a change to the starting lineup."
Player of the Game: Keith Wright - 17 pts, 9 reb, 1 stl, 1 blk
CAMBRIDGE, MA - The Harvard had their home opener today and did not disappoint their fans. They had a missed opportunity against #18 Ohio State and did not plan to lose their first game at home. The game started off a bit slow. Both teams struggled to score but then Wright started to work the low and high posts for easy points. Once he started scoring everyone else followed suit. They had a big 12-2 run heading into halftime with a 19 point lead. The second half was even more domination from the Crimson. They controlled the boards and dominated in both post and perimeter defense. They gave Buffalo no chance to score. This was a very different Harvard team compared to their last game. They came out and played confidently.
Here is Coach Holt's comments about the game: "I wish we would have played like this the other day. If we had played like this we would have definitely beaten Ohio State. We managed to shoot well from the free throw line and from the field. We dominated the boards. We dominated the paint. That's the kind of play that we're looking for. We want to be able to run the floor but also have big men that can take control down low. This team is different from last year. Last year we were working the outside and trying to play it slow. This year's team can't do that as well. We have some size and speed and we plan on using it."
Swiatek goes missing in some games from what I can see. Who usually comes in for him...is it Cameron Ivy? That kid seems like a certain star.
The game against Lamar I intentionally took out the starters and wanted to see how the freshmen would do. But the last 2 games was just because Swiatek is not playing strong in the post. He'll give up easy points and not play well on offense. Buffalo was one of his better games but the Ohio State one was really bad. I didn't think that Cameron Ivy would do so well this early. I got him as a 3-star recruit in the offseason recruiting. I'm glad I got him now!
Player of the Game: Keith Wright - 15 pts, 9 reb, 1 stl, 5 blk
FAIRFAX, VA - Today was a harder game than the Crimson thought. George Mason is notorious for their underdog victories and did not disappoint today. They ran toe-to-toe with Harvard the entire game. In the first half alone there were 10 ties and 6 lead changes. Harvard was getting dominated in the paint, which in turn caused them to start shooting outside. Swiatek got pulled early again for two main reason. The first was that he let George Mason's Williams dominate him on offense and defense. The second was that he decided to shoot two three-pointers. Elkins and Ivy came in to split the time that Swiatek would have had. The end of the game was very intense. With 2 minutes to go, George Mason held a slim 3 point lead. Kenyi struggled to make shots from the field but was automatic at the free throw line. He got aggressive towards the end and started to drive to the hole. In the last 2 minutes he went to the free throw line 2 times and made all 4 shots. Harvard's time management is what won them that game. In the last 2 minutes George Mason only had 2 possessions and the last possession they had was to bring the game within 1. Harvard snuck out of here with a win that keeps them moving along well after their loss to #18 Ohio State.
Here is what Coach Holt said about the game today: "We need to be stronger in the post. We are playing very weak down there and that's why George Mason stayed in this game. If we would have stepped up a bit more we could have pulled away. I think for the Tennessee game there is going to be a different lineup for the starting five. Swiatek pulled 2 really dumb shots today and is continuing to be weak in the post. Elkins proved today that he's ready to come in and play strong and Ivy has already done that. These freshmen are ready to work so we're ready to put them to work against Tennessee."
Up Next: 11/11/10 vs. #14 Tennessee (1-0, 0-0 SEC)
Nice win.. Depsite only 6 points in the last game, it looks like Ivy is really pushing for more P.T.
With McNally not being a shooter and Smalls appearing to not be your PG of the future, are you going to go hard after a PG in the recruiting class this year.

Honestly, I don't know at the moment. I know that I'm going after another SF. I think that I'm going for either a PG or SG. This year there weren't too many recruits that were interested in coming to Harvard. Hopefully that changes after this year. I'm trying to land at least 2 recruits (3 would be ideal). I also really want to have 3* recruits over 2*. The hardest part is that my budget for this season is pretty small but I only have 3 scholarships to work with so thankfully I'm not spreading myself too thin
