Re: The Coaching Legacy of Danny Carmichael (CH 2K8)

Carmichael Stuns Country, Turns Down Duke Offer

SPOKANE, WA --- Legendary Duke coach, Mike Krzyzewski, retired after the conclusion of the Blue Devils' 2013-14 season.

The obvious choice to take over such a storied program would be the Coach that just won a National Championship at a Mid-Major school.

Shockingly that coach, Gonzaga's Danny Carmichael, turned the job offer down.

Carmichael would later post this statement on Social Media, "I'm honored and humbled to have been a top candidate for a Head Coaching job at a prestigious university like Duke. But at this time, I don't think that's a career move I should make for myself and for my family. I love what we've built so far during my short tenure at Gonzaga. I whole-heartedly believe that success will continue to come to this great program and I can't wait to see what the future holds."

Since Carmichael released that statement he has agreed to a 3 year extension with Gonzaga that will keep him under contract in Spokane through the 2018-19 season.

Gonzaga returns their top 9 players in terms of PPG and MPG. With another off-season for these returning players to get stronger and progress their skills, the Bulldogs could (and should) make another run at a National Championship this upcoming season.

Re: The Coaching Legacy of Danny Carmichael (CH 2K8)

2014 Signing Day

"Good things come to those who wait".

Gonzaga didn't sign a single player during the season for the first time in Danny Carmichael's tenure in Spokane.

However, to start the Spring Signing period, the Bulldogs landed 3 commits. All 3 commits are 4* recruits and are apart of the #25 Signing Class for Gonzaga.

Here is a breakdown of the 3 Gonzaga signees... And there's one thing you'll notice about the breakdowns about these players. They're all terrific athletes with above average skill sets that can be developed as they won't be needed to provide big minutes early in their careers:

4* SG, Willie Fellows (76 overall): Fellows is a 6'2, 178 lbs. Shooting Guard from San Francisco, CA. Fellows is an athletic freak, fantastic defensively, and a great distributor. At 6'2", Fellows has some serious hops and can throw down some vicious dunks. He's an outstanding perimeter defender is one of the top defensive guards in the 2014 Signing Class. He also has an unmatched motor. He never takes a play off and that's one of the things that Coach Carmichael loved about him.

4* PF, Dipo Bouma (77 overall): Dipo Bouma is a 6'7", 218 lbs. Power Forward from Ithaca, NY. Like Fellows, Bouma is an athletic freak and has an insane vertical for a Power Forward. He's a tremendous finisher around the rim with a great low post offensive game. He's also a solid low post defender and shot blocker. For now, he's an average rebounder, but that will get better with time. And get this, he's a great free throw shooter too. Something this Gonzaga team really needs.

4* SF, Otis Poole (78 overall): Otis Poole is a 6'4", 215 lbs. Small Forward from Houston, TX. He's a little undersized, but he makes up for it with his athleticism. All around, Poole is a great prospect. He can finish at the rim and he's got a really solid jump shot/3 pointer. He's a tremendous defender who specializes in perimeter defense, but he can also get up and block shots too. He's also a surprisingly good rebounder for only being 6'4".
