Re: Coach Legacy of Big Mike (CH 2k8)

We are here today with Coach Mike to get his insight on our beloved G-Men as they head into the SWAC Tournament.

Reporter: Coach, how do you feel after completing your first regular season in the SWAC as a first year head coach?

Coach: I will say it has not been easy. Taking this team that no one expected to do anything great and making a name for ourselves has been hard work.

Reporter: What do you mean by hard work?

Coach: Practice, Practice, Practice. Our guys have lived in the Gym putting in extra work and in the weight room. For our Seniors it's been about getting them to have a winning attitude.

Reporter: Did you think you could win the Regular Season Title in your first year?

Coach: Not at all. I knew this team would be improved. After some early season success I told our guys we can do this. The believed in me and each other and we made it happen.

Reporter: Grambling has never been to the NCAA Tournament do you think you guys have a shot this year?

Coach: Do I!? We are the team to beat in the SWAC right now. We have won 8 straight. We must come out and play our game and the rest will take care of it's self.

Reporter: Freshman PG Remond Brown has been the story of the season averaging 16.6ppg. How has he taken to being the leader of this team so well?

Coach: Well I told Remond when I got here that this was going to be his team and we would go as far as he took us. He was an 5A All State guy for 3 years at West Monroe High School. He knows how to be a leader. When he is not hitting on a particular night he will make sure to get others more touches. This is not a one man team but he is our star this year.

Reporter: Thanks for your time coach and good luck in the SWAC Tournament.

Semifinals
Miss Valley came out and gave Grambling a heavy weight fight. This game went into Triple-OT. Valley started off the game strong with a great first half showing as Grambling struggled out the gate. The Grambling faithful were worried about that their beloved G-Men wouldn't find their gear in the second half. The Tigers found their rhythm in the second half to show the Conference still runs through them. In the first 2 OT periods it was a defense match, but the 3rd ended up being all Tigers as they pulled away for the victory. Brown lead all scores with 34 points. He still proves that he is the best player in the SWAC but never puts himself above his teammates. Up Next Grambling will face Alabama A&M in the SWAC Championship Game.

Championship Game Match-Up
The 2008 SWAC Basketball Tournament will be won by either Grambling State (70 Ovr) or Alabama A&M (67 Ovr). Grambling is looking to win their first post season appearance since a 1980 NIT berth. Grambling has been looked at as the favorite to win the conference all season. Alabama A&M will be looking to make their first post season trip since 2005. Most experts have Grambling winning this game. Will they G-Men live up to the Hype or will they fold under the pressure?

Good luck in the Chip. Looks like you got a little help early in the tourney with some higher seeds knocking off the lower seed teams.

Nice to see the whole starting unit producing.

Championship Game
The Tigers are headed to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. Grambling came out on a mission against Alabama A&M. The G-Men dominated the first half going into the break 40-17. Coach tells his starters that they will rest in the second half. This decision almost comes back to bite coach in the butt. As A&M would close the gap against the second string Tigers making coach have to put the starters back in with 2:30 left to play in the game to ensure the victory.
