Bryant has season ending surgery
__________________________________________________

ESPN.com news services

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Kobe Bryant is officially done for the season after having surgery to repair his torn right labrum today.

This is the 3rd straight season ending injury for Bryant.

Bryant is expected to need 9 months to recover from his third straight season-ending injury. If Bryant meets that timetable, he could return to basketball shortly before the start of the 2015-16 season -- and the Lakers expect to see him in purple and gold again.

Neal ElAttrache and Steve Lombardo performed the two-hour surgery at the Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles.

"I expect Kobe to make a full recovery, and if all goes as expected, he should be ready for the start of the season," ElAttrache said in a statement provided by the Lakers.

The Lakers formally declared Bryant out for the season by acknowledging the expected recovery time for his injury but also effectively confirmed he won't retire and will attempt to play his 20th season in the fall. Bryant, who will be 37 years old this summer, is the NBA's highest-paid player at $23.5 million this season, and he is under contract for $25 million next year.

Bryant missed the 2013 playoffs after tearing his Achilles tendon late in the regular season, and he played in just six games last season before breaking a bone near his left knee. Although he has played through innumerable injuries in the past, the accumulated wear from nearly two decades in the NBA has caught up to him.

Appreciate it and thanks for checking in.

This season has been pretty much a wash for me. Knew I wouldn't get far with Kobe and this supporting cast. This season has been about getting a top pick and developing my young guys in Jordan Clarkson, Jabari Brown, Tarik Black, etc. Julius Randle would be on the list but he's out for the year to.

Swaggy P drops 25 in win over Knicks
By SimulationSports.net
Posted February 1st, 2015

The Good: Nick Young. With Kobe Bryant out for the season with a torn shoulder labrum, Nick Young stepped up for the Lakers in their win over the Knicks. In 20 minutes off the bench, Swaggy P scored a game high 25 points with 4 assist and 2 steals. Young shot the ball extremely well going 10-of-14 from the field including 3-of-5 from behind the arc.

The Bad: Carmelo Anthony and Andrea Bargnani. Carmelo Anthony went scoreless for the first time this season as he only played 10 minutes before fouling out against the Lakers. Andrea Bargnani tried to step up and play hero but also failed miserably as he finished the night going 8-of-20 from the field on his way to being a -6 for the Knicks in the loss.

X-Factor: Jordan Clarkson. Jordan Clarkson continued his surprisingly rookie campaign by flirting with a triple-double against New York. The 2nd round pick out of Missouri played 27 minutes and finished with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assist while shooting 7-of-14 from the field. The Lakers look like they have found a gem in Clarkson.

Rookie Watch: Jabari Brown and Langston Galloway. Jabari Brown saw a huge minutes increase and he took advantage of it. Brown scored 14 points with 2 rebounds on 5-of-11 shooting in 20 minutes off the bench. Galloway ended the night with 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assist on 8-of-14 shooting in a losing effort.

Up Next: Milwaukee Bucks, Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavaliers
