I have a quick question, are you giving your expansion team any cap restrictions? I remember looking it up a few years ago and the NBA had rules in place to limit the cap room of new expansion teams to prevent them from throwing big money at star players right off the bat

I believe in season 1, expansion teams only have 66% of the salary cap that other teams have, and in season 2 it bumps up to 75% of other teams cap room, then in season 3 they get 100% of the cap room

I'm not sure if they have changed things since then, or if that is a rule that even matters in 2k associations lol, but it makes it super hard to put together a team for the first few seasons

I honestly had no idea that was the rule! I just looked it up and I found exactly what you were talking:

"Charlotte will have a Salary Cap in its first season equal to 66% of the Salary Cap applicable to the rest of the league and a Salary Cap in its second season equal to 75% of the Salary Cap applicable to the rest of the league."

I can't find anything different, so I'll definitely implement that this season. I just have to remember that in Year 1, my Salary has to be below $65.40M and in Year 2 my Salary has to be below $74.32M. So I'll adjust my plans for free agency accordingly.

Thanks for point that out and thanks for following!

Free Agency: Nashville Recap

Before anyone signed, I made one final trade to make sure we'd stay within the $65M salary cap we were held to this season.

I packaged Tyson Chandler and Nemanja Bjelica to see what teams were offering. I got this solid trade from the Nets and I accepted the offer:

Nashville Receives: Toronto's 2018 1st Round Pick and PG Isaiah Whitehead
Brooklyn Receives: C Tyson Chandler and PF Nemanja Bjelica

The Nets had recently traded Brook Lopez to the Nets as apart of the DeAngelo Russell deal. So before the deal was made, Timofey Mozgov was slotted to be the starting Center. Apparently, they weren't to thrilled with the thought of that, which convinced them to make the trade revolving around Tyson Chandler.

We pick up a nice, young PG in Isaiah Whitehead. The 22 year old is pretty athletic with solid ball handling skills. He's not a very good perimeter defender and he's still developing a perimeter shot. Once he does, with his size and athleticism, he'll become a pretty solid player.

And then we picked up that 1st Round Pick... Since it's the Raptors, there's a really good chance that the pick will end up late in the 1st Round... But, it's a 1st round pick nonetheless.

There was one big reason that I made this trade. Tyson Chandler is going to make $13M this season and Nemanja Bjelica is going to make $3.95M this season. While, Isaiah Whitehead is only going to make $1.31M this season. So, by going through with this trade, we cleared up $15.64M in cap space, along with acquiring a 1st Round Pick.

Later on in the day, four free agents signed contracts with us: Blake Griffin, Jared Sullinger, Wayne Ellington, and Tony Snell.

Before the 4 of them signed with us, we had $46.69M in cap space ($65.40M salary cap for year 1). Then after the four of them signed, we had $8.83M in cap space.

However, we did get some bad news today... Kentavious Caldwell-Pope ended up signing with Utah. The Jazz came out of absolutely nowhere, offered KCP a 3 year, $51.75M contract and he damn near accepted on the spot.

So, there was one final free agent that I wanted to pursue. That was PG Patty Mills, the San Antonio Spurs backup PG. Mills was a huge part of their recent championship run in 2013-14. Not only did Mills only want the minimum, but he was exactly what we were looking for in terms of a backup PG to complement De'Aaron Fox. He was a veteran PG, with experience in big games, and he had a great perimeter shot.

Thankfully, we offered Mills a 1 year, $1.42M deal on the 2nd day of Free Agency and he signed with us the following day.

After an off-season with a ton of moves, we finally had our roster set for the start of our inaugural season. Here is a look at the 2017-18 Nashville Storm:

Rondo to the Spurs and Dirk left Dallas?! Now that was an interesting free agency period

Will you be keeping track of some of the other teams during this association? Seeing all those signings makes me interested to see how things are going to play out around the league

One that stood out to me was Brandon Jennings signing a tiny contract to back up Lowry in Toronto. Isn't that crazy how his career took such a turn? Remember when he was the man on the Bucks? I still play NBA 2k13 and Jennings always wants close to a max contract as a free agent. It'd be interesting to see how things go for him and others around the league, and of course on your team as well

I thought about manually using the Mavericks to re-sign Dirk... And manually using the Spurs to make sure they didn't sign Rondo. I can almost guarantee you, Rondo will never play for the Spurs. But then again, despite a couple moves that I thought probably wouldn't happen in real life, it did give this MyLeague some interesting story lines heading into this season.

For example... How about KD to the Bulls after one season with the Warriors? It was crazy because on the first Moratorium day, KD had an offer from Golden State, but Steph didn't. Then, next thing I know, Steph isn't on the Free Agent list anymore. So I backed out to see what was up with that (then I realized he wouldn't come up in the Transactions list yet because he hadn't officially signed... I'm still trying to get used to the Moratorium period) and when I try to go back into Free Agency I see a "social media post" on the side of the screen saying that the Warriors gave up their rights to KD. Weird stuff lol.

But yeah, I'll do a better job this time around by making sure I keep you all up to date on the standings, and other big stories around the league.

It's funny that you bring up Brandon Jennings in 2K13... I remember on 2K13 I always used to try and bring him in once he hit Free Agency... I just loved using him in that game. But yeah, it is crazy to see him and some other guys taking the Minimum.

Thanks for the comment!
