Jazz Roll in Huge Victory to Open Up Season, Mike Conley Leads The Way
Game 1
October 23, 2019
Salt Lake City, Utah
Prized free agent signing Mike Conley made his impact felt in his first game as he paced the Jazz in a 122-96 rout of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Conley dropped 29 points in his Jazz debut to back up 8 assists and 5 rebounds along with going 5-9 from downtown.
From the opening tip the game was in Utah's hands. Jumping out to a quick 5-0 lead they would never look back. In fact throughout the game the Jazz would build their lead to as many as 30 thanks in part to forcing 6 turnovers.
Rudy Gobert picked up right where he left off last season as he was a beast on the glass leading all teams with 18 rebounds, Gobert was also 8-10 from the field and had 17 points and 4 blocks, creating mayhem for the Thunder big men. Steven Adams was held to just 11 points and Danilo Galanari couldn't get comfortable all night shooting just 31%.
Despite losing all world talent Russell Westbrook, the gameplan hasn't seemed to change much with Chris Paul now running court in Oklahoma City. Paul put up 26 shots in the loss more than any other player, despite making just 1-7 3 pointers. The sure bet Hall Of Famer finished with 19 points.
The Thunder were led in scoring by Dennis Schroder and his 23 points.
Utah Jazz fan favorite and up and coming young star Donovan Mitchell had a rather quiet stat line, notching 14 points, with an assist and a steal.
Up next the Jazz hit the road to take on Lebron James and Anthony Davis in La La Land. The Lakers are coming off a 114-112 win over their city rival Clippers in which Lebron had 36 points.
Rudy Gobert grabs a rebound. Gobert had 18 on the day.
Mike Conley goes up for 2 of his game high 29 points.
Jazz Come Out On Top in La La Land, Beat Bron and His Revamped Lakers
Game 2
October 25, 2019
Los Angeles, CA
The Jazz were able to put just enough separation between themselves and the Lakers in the final minutes Friday night to take home a win, their second straight to start the new season 118-108. In what could be a playoff preview, these two teams battled back and forth almost all game, a definite treat to basketball fans everywhere with the season now fully among us.
Mike Conley had a huge 4th quarter for the Jazz scoring 8 of his 23 points in the final 4 minutes, helping the Jazz pull away late. Lebron James brought his Laker team to within 1 point, twice in the final quarter, but missed threes from Kyle Kuzma and James himself would allow the Jazz to re-gain possession and score.
For the Jazz Donovan Mitchell scored 14 of his game 25 points in the 1st quarter, coming out on fire hitting his first 4 shots, including a deep three. Unfortunately that was the only three point shot he made, finishing 1-7 from deep. Mitchell is just 2-14 from beyond the arc this season.
With a 2-point lead to start the 2nd quarter, the Jazz came out on a 12-2 run to build a nice double digit lead, but the Lakers came roaring back and eventually were able to tie it before the half thanks to an Anthony Davis shot at the buzzer.
The same would happen in the 3rd quarter, with the Jazz able to get their lead up to 11, but this time Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led the comeback for the Lakers hitting back to back threes.
As mentioned, Lebron did get the Lakers to within 1 in the 4th but Conley was able to secure the win, scoring 8 points in 4 minutes. Jazz rookie guard Nigel Williams-Goss put the icing on top when he poked the ball free from Quinn Cook and slammed it home in the final seconds, his first NBA points.
Following the win, the Jazz will make a quick trip home for a game tomorrow night vs the Sacramento Kings. The Kings (1-1) led by their guard duo of De'Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield are coming off a 117-99 loss to the Trail Blazers.
Ed Davis makes a huge block on a Rajon Rondo layup attempt. Rondo played 42 minutes but managed just 9 points.
Mike Conley makes a circus shot layup with Lakers PG Rajon Rondo draped on him. Conley took home POG Honors with 23 pts and 8 ast.
Lebron James slams it home over Jazz F Bogan Bogdanovic to bring the Lakers within 1 in the 4th quarter.

Jazz Ship Joe Ingles, Georges Niang to Atlanta for Jabari Parker, Damian Jones
November 2, 2019
Salt Lake City, Utah
The Utah Jazz have made a HUGE trade here in the early stages of the 2019-2020 season. The team has sent life long Jazz forward Joe Ingles and another young forward, Georges Niang to the Atlanta Hawks for forward Jabari Parker and center Damian Jones.
Jabari Parker is coming in on a 1-year deal he signed with the Hawks in the off-season and the Jazz are hoping he will eventually sign long term. In 5 games with the Hawks so far, Parker was averaging 17 points a game. His best number since 2016 season when he averaged 20 points.
When Hawks GM Travis Schlenk came calling, almost immediately did new Jazz GM Ry Brady and head coach Quin Snyder agree. The trade makes the Jazz a much younger squad as Parker is 24 compared to Joe Ingles who is 32.
