Nice win for Dinko's crew, a game that was a bit closer than they expected but a W is a W. Culture building victory there.

Yeah, feeling out the squad and building a system and chemistry. He's gotta find a way to get Almond more than 4 shots though.

Those are the kind of games that help make the team better, keep it up coach Oggy. Crazy to see Davidson take down UNC by that much. Is Steph Curry on the roster? Also are you playing the games for both coaches? Awesome report brotha

Absolutely! They help the team learn and grow, but still get the W.

I believe that Curry is on that Davidson roster, but with 2KShare being out of service, I think it just gives him a random name. I decided not to go with some real roster, just so we don't end up with 2 Steph Currys in the NBA.

I am playing the games for both coaches, but I will only play about 30% of their seasons. I can tell my game is rusty though

Recruiting update

The Dragomirov Brothers have been on the recruiting trail for nearly 5 weeks now and are nearing their very first signing period as head coaches. With 1 week left before some players officially commit, how are they doing?

Northern Colorado (Oggy)
The upside of being a team with key contributors at Senior is that Oggy has 3 scholarships he can offer to build up the talent on this roster. How is Oggy treating those 3 scholarships? As win now material, with all 3 currently offered out to JuCo transfers.

#1 – Edward Burke, SG (JuCo Sophomore)

Edward Burke is 3-star a well-rounded shooting guard from Rancho Cucamonga. He’s a bit undersized, but can be a very good “three and D” guy for the Bears, who are the only school he’s considering at this point – probably a lock for Oggy.

#2 – Garrett Guerrero, C (JuCo Freshman)

Guerrero is a 19 year-old Junior College freshman who brings great size and uses that effectively on defense and when rebounding. The 3-star recruit is leaning pretty strongly to Denver University, but Oggy is still pushing hard, though it’s believed Guerrero feels that DU has the superior coaching staff.

#3 – Jim Flores, SG (JuCo Freshman)

Beyond Guerrero, there are no other 3-star recruits that Ognyan and the UNC staff are targeting, and Jim Flores is the 2-star recruit he has his sights set on. The lanky shooting guard is just average at shooting, but Oggy is hoping his size, effort, and athleticism make him an interesting prospect. He has scholarship offers from UTSA and Northern Colorado, but is also strongly considering Lamar and UTPA (Texas Pan-American).

The next three
  • Jonathan Kennedy, SG (JuCo Freshman) – 2-star recruit, currently has an offer from LCC*.
  • Nathaniel Blankenship, C – 2-star big man currently has an offer from Denver University and is leaning strongly that way.
  • Hilton Blythe, C – 2 star recruit seems like a lock to head to Nebraska.
*cannot figure out who LCC is. Seems to be in Texas. Laredo community college? It’s not Lamar.

St. Francis (Dinko)
With only 1 scholarship, Kostadin needs to use it wisely. He seems to be shooting his shot, going all in on the 7-footer from Minneapolis. If that doesn’t work out, Dinko will have to hope he can find a big man somewhere else.

#1 – Christopher Nabors, C

Nabors is a towering 7 feet tall and plays with intelligence. He seems to be leaning toward Drake, but Dinko is giving it everything he’s got, hoping that his background as a big man can entice Chris to West-Central Pennsylvania.

The next three
  • Dion Allen, SG (JuCo Sophomore) – a sharpshooter, this 3-star recruit seems committed to BCC*
  • Cam English, C, (JuCo Sophomore) – James Madison has offered this 3-star big man a scholarship, and it’s looking likely he ends up there.
  • Skip Christensen, C (JuCo Sophomore) – the 2-star center has no scholarship offers and has St. Francis as his #1 school. If all else falls through, it’s likely this guy gets an offer.
*cannot figure out who BCC is either

Family Competition
There is only 1 prospect both brothers seem to be in contact with, and that’s a 7’1” center from Chicago named Andry Popoola. What he lacks in skill he makes up for in size. Dinko and St. Francis are his #1 choice, while Oggy and the UNC Bears are #4 on his list.

November 23, 2019 Northern Colorado vs Duquesne [non-conference]

Coming into the game at 3-1, Oggy welcomes his brother’s alma mater town. He was never the sentimental one, but he realized how important Duquesne was to his life. If it weren’t for them, his brother wouldn’t have gotten a scholarship and they never would have moved to Pittsburgh; however, it goes beyond that. It wasn’t just his brother that got a scholarship; the Duquesne administration and some local benefactors got Oggy into Robert Morris and got his parents green cards. Now he is not only on his path to USA citizenship, but he’s also now officially “Ognyan Dragomirov, NCAA Division 1 basketball coach.” 17 year old Oggy would have never dreamed that in 10 years he’d be living in Greeley, Colorado and coaching basketball for a living.

All thanks to his brother and the fine people at Duquesne. Thinking of Duquesne, Oggy remembered to say a short prayer before walking out onto the court with his team.

Prayers were needed, because Duquesne were vastly superior to the Bears and it showed early only. UNC could not break down the 2-3 zone, and even with both of the Dukes’ bigs a bit banged up, nothing was going for the Bears.

With just a few minutes left in the first half, the Dukes only had 17 points, but the Bears only had 7. Oggy was beside himself with their shooting, as nothing was falling despite open looks. However, he’d have more to get upset about as the Dukes went on a 21-16 run to end the half, leading by 15 at the break: 38-23. Duquesne was shooting 60% from the field, compared to 34% for Northern Colorado.

At halftime, Oggy started screaming at his boys, asking where their passion was and trying to get them to come out inspired. It seemed to work at first as they cut the lead to 10…then it all fell apart again. Team leader Delvon Jahnke was supposed to be a sharpshooter, but was just building a brick house, missing open look after open look.

Finally, after being down 20 with just a few minutes left, his team started playing with passion and fire, salvaging the day by only losing by 6. But by that point everyone knew the outcome and it only made the box score look better, not reality.

Oggy couldn’t be too upset. He knew Duquesne was a better school and he enjoyed being back in Pittsburgh and seeing his brother and family, but it wasn’t a fun game to coach. Donovin Mascoll finished with a deceiving 18 points (most in garbage time) and only 3 measly rebounds. Both of his shooters went 5-13 from the field.

Around the NCAA
  • Louisville got a big win over North Carolina to stay undefeated.
  • St Francis lost 67-50 at Boise State, with Muhamed Payne leading the team with 16 points and 10 rebounds. This drops Dinko to 2-1 on the season.
  • Just a few days later, St Francis lost again, this time by 23 to La Salle. It was over by half as the Red Flash were down by 15. Sharpshooting guard Dante Timmons had 23 (7-9 from deep) for La Salle. Junior guard Tobias Roberson had 7 turnovers for St. Francis.

Around the NBA
  • The Milwaukee Bucks have won 8 straight and sit 2nd in the East at 12-4.
  • Nikola Jokic leads the NBA with 3 triple doubles through 14 games.

Ouch, tough loss -- kids came out flat or maybe a bit nervous with the way they were bricking everything. Oggy's got to instill some confidence in them, not sure screaming at them at halftime will do that, but we'll see how the team responds to their coach's plea long-term.

Absolutely - a lot he still has to learn here. It was clear that he was out of ideas when they threw the 2-3 zone at home with 2 big guys down low.
