Re: Potential Magic Johnson return OK with Jordan.

Wow, T’Wolves sitting at the top. Wouldn’t that be something if they are able to keep it up and somehow pull off a championship without KG... what a huge “what-if”. How ironic that KG leads the franchise IRL and eventually leaves for Boston to win a ship, but here Minny actually has championship potential without KG on the roster.

That’s what makes these retro dynasties so interesting IMO.

You got it right! Love the What If?! Scenarios. Big reason I have a few failed stories is I read so much on retro NBA I keep finding better and better scenarios!! 1995 let's me play through a lot of them so hope to get a few seasons out of it!

Timberwolves are stacked, Greg Anthony at PG, Isiah Rider at SG, Gugliotta at SF, Laettner at PF, Reeves at C, 6th man Michael Finley, 7th Man Terry Porter, 8th man Sam Mitchell!!

I couldn't agree more with you. Before I started my OKC story, I contemplated going with the 2K8 Sonics with rookie KD or Lakers (the Kobe tribute) and seeing how things played out.

That's a great one actually, if the Sonics didn't trade Allen to the Celts and re-signed Lewis... wow what a team!

Magic Johnson ramps up preparation for comeback.

Magic Johnson ramps up preparation for comeback.

Vancouver -- Magic Johnson's comeback is almost here.

Only a few days before the Grizzlies play their first game in 1996, Johnson is still working hard on his game.

"Magic was Magic; he looked good," guard Darrell Armstrong said. "He didn't even have to try, the way he moved, used screens and those type of things. He looked good. He went as hard as he could go."

Johnson survived plenty of rough contact too, getting knocked to the floor when the practice went full court. No. 5 overall pick Garnett, who has emerged as one of the Grizzlies top players so far, said Johnson showed no fatigue at all in the 2 hour session.

"He just got up and played harder. He's Magic," Garnett said. "You can't keep up with Magic. He's a step ahead of everybody. With three, four years off, it doesn't matter."

"He's feeling much better now, and I think he's itching to start getting back into the swing of things, playing some real games." coach Kurt Rambis said. "But I know his spirit and heart is to start pushing it and to get himself into condition. With him, I just sort of sit back and watch. With him being president of the team, I think we'll keep two spots open for him."

Johnson tried to keep his workouts earlier in the season a secret, leaving by side door's while reporters were kept waiting in a hallway outside the Grizzlies practice court. He never made himself available for comment as to why he was in playing gear. Rambis didn't even mention that Johnson had practiced, leaving the players to spill the beans. But now the secret is out and everyone can sense a weight has been lifted off Johnson's shoulders.

But what shocked me most was not how good Magic looked in today's session. It was the visit from another great from the 80's Larry Bird. Bird came by to a practice with his gear in hand. Taking Magic Johnson's long standing offer up finally. Bird was quickly handed Grizzlies practice uniform by Head Coach Rambis with the famous #33 on it.

Bird took part in all the shooting practice and could clearly still shoot the ball. He also won the 3 point contest. No surprises there. Clearly tired after the hour mark, Bird declined an invite to take part in the scrimmage. But once the first game got tied at 10-10, Bird slid closer to Assistant Coach Jay Triano. " Put me in Coach, I'm ready to go." Bird subbed in for Gerald Wilkins and the gym went silent. Armstrong passed the ball to Bird at the top of the key.

Bird motioned at Garnett to set a high pick. Bird rose up over Blue Edwards and nailed the three pointer. Game, set and match to the White Uniforms. "Larrys still got it, I think he should hang around a while longer." said Magic Johnson to me on the sideline. Maybe he should. Conditioning will be a problem, but if the game is on the line, there are only two people I'd trust to make the shot, Michael Jordan and Larry Bird.

The Vancouver Grizzlies could be set to go back to the future quickly based on this practice. Watch this space.

YEAHHHHHH, Magic and Bird, united at last! Do it Larry, give him 20 a night, let him play the final minutes of the fourth every game, he's the closer!
